LET IT RIDE – Multi plays with Ryan Phelan

Every Saturday, Ryan Phelan hunts for the most reliable locks to strengthen your multi bets. By analysing race maps, sectional times, and key trainer/driver combinations, he delivers sharp insights to add confidence – and a touch of excitement – to your harness racing, thoroughbred, or sports multis.

Each selection is rated with low, medium, or high confidence and includes a suggested place or win price. The goal? Minimise risk, maximise consistency, and stack the odds in your favour for a strong overall return.

Race 1 – 2240m Aldebaran Park Trotters Free For All

1/11 Remus Phoenix – Taylor Youl/Chris Svanosio

Remus Phoenix has been very good each run this preparation, running on strongly at each start, none more so than last time when unlucky not to run 2nd to the champ Keayang Zahara in Sydney. He has a tricky draw to overcome, but with the right cart into it, he will finish hard late.

Confidence: Low   Rated Place Price: $1.80

Race 2 – 2240m Nutrien Equine Pace

2/7 Vincenzo – Jordan Leedham/Dean Braun

Vincenzo hasn’t been having much luck with barrier draws but it hasn’t stopped him from delivering terrific efforts. He will need luck again, but his sectionals are too good to ignore for him to be strong late against these.

Confidence: Low      Rated Place Price: $2.20

Race 3 – 1720m Hygain Edge Pace

3/2 Jazzy Malea – Michael Bellman/Aaron Dunn

You’ll go a long way to find an unluckier runner than Jazzy Malea last start, she was climbing all over them at the finish. She steps up in grade slightly, and there’s plenty of speed around her, but her two return efforts suggest she’s back to her best.

Confidence: Medium   Rated Place Price: $1.50

Race 4 – 2240m Vicbred Voucher Trot

4/11 Claudys Hero – Kyle Marshall/Kyle Marshall

Claudys Hero has been in consistent form this time in and was unlucky last week when off the back row and flew home late. He was beaten by Howdy Mate last time they met, but with even luck he can turn the tables here.

Confidence: Medium            Rated Win Price: $2.80

Race 5 – 2240m IRT Trot

5/2 Bennie And The Jets – Leigh Sutton/Adam Rudd

Bennie And The Jets was superb when resuming here last week, letting down with a great sprint for victory. He goes to the front row and maps well here either in front or with the right cover.

Confidence: High     Rated Win Price: $2.00

Race 6 – 2240m Garrrards Horse & Hound Pace

6/6 Mighty Jolt – Jordan Leedham/Dean Braun

Mighty Jolt came out with skates on last week to lead and travel boldly at his first run for the new stable, only to go down narrowly late. He should come on from that and with the right tempo can see out the trip strongly if he finds the top.

Confidence: Medium            Rated Win Price: $3.50

Race 7 – 2240m Forty Winks Melton Pace

7/2 Cardigan Dan – Mark Pitt/Emma Stewart

Cardigan Dan resumes here as a 3yo following some terrific efforts last campaign, concluding with his runner-up effort in the Breeders Crown. He gives away experience but has the speed to lead and control the tempo, allowing him to run good time.

Confidence: High     Rated Win Price: $1.30

Race 8 – 2240m Hip Pocket Castlemaine FFA

8/3 Bulletproof Boy – James Herbertson/Scott Ewen

Veteran superstar Bulletproof Boy was beaten fair and square last time out but deserves another chance up in trip. He looks to lead and make a statement ahead of his selection in the rich Nullarbor in WA in the coming weeks.

Confidence: Medium            Rated Win Price: $2.40
