OVERVIEW: The opening event on night one of the Inter Dominion series looms as an old school match race between brilliant beginner HIGHERTHANANEAGLE (4) and potential future megastar BONUS PLAY (12) where tactics, tempo and fortune in transit will likely decide the result. Despite faltering late after being molested early in the stronger of two qualifiers for this affair HIGHERTHANANEAGLE (4) is an understandable favourite given the overwhelming likelihood he’ll work straight to the front and drop anchor once he gets there here tonight. That being said there was something freakishly foreboding about the way BONUS PLAY (12) swallowed that fellow whole in the same preliminary mentioned above and if John Caldow can make a dazzling mid-race move or launch three wide on the back of a reasonable mid-race tempo you still get the impression that Bruce Morgan’s late blooming prodigy can simply outclass his only serious adversary in the lane. All things being equal the glamour pair will run on-two with third place being primarily fought out between MACHS GOLD (8) and REGAL CHEVAL (5) with slimmer place claims going to BE MAJOR THREAT (6), ALWAYS FLASHING (10) and KISSMELVIS (7).
