OVERVIEW: On face value the second of tonight’s ID trotting qualifiers looks a set and forget job with nine-time Group 1 winner SPEEDING SPUR (2) almost certain to lob the front and dictate terms once he assumes control. That’s certainly the overwhelmingly popular theory and we’re not going to seriously swim against the tide given Speeding Spur’s class, tactical advantages and breathtaking will to succeed but it is worth noting that MAORI LAW (6) is a phenomenally talented trotter that has been trialling like a demon against the pacers of late and can upset the apple cart if everything played out in his favour. It’s unlikely that the series second favourite will encounter any other meaningful obstacles though ROMPERS MONARCHY (8) is flying at present and will rattle late off what looks like being a super economical trip as will OUR TWENTYTEN (1) who couldn’t have dreamed of a more perfect scenario than trialling the hot-pot her everywhere he goes. Others worth keeping an eye on from a series-long perspective are ENROLLED (4), THE BOSS MAN (3) and particularly RED HOT TOOTH (11) who is blessed with enormous ability but faces a very worrying test here to try and secure serious points.
