With a record smashing run Ignatius threw more fuel on the fire of the IRT Breeders Crown three-year-old boys' final at Tabcorp Park Melton, which promises to be an outstanding season-ending showdown.

Jimmy Rattray, trainer-driver of the stunning gelding, joined Cody Winnell and John Thwaites on RSN 927's One Out One Back this morning, just a day after Ignatius smashed records with his 1:53.5 mile rate in winning a Breeders Crown heat at Tabcorp Park Menangle.

It could be seen as a shot across the bow of Poster Boy, Bonus Play, Colt Thirty One, Ride High, Konan and the host of other talented three-year-olds expected to target the $195,000 Group 1 Crown on August 25.

"(I'm) looking forward to the Breeders Crown," Rattray said. "It's hard to say until you race (the others how he stacks up), but I'm looking forward to the challenge and I'm sure they will know he's there."

Over yesterday's 2300m Ignatius found the front in a 48.1 lead time and stopped the clock at 28 seconds for the third and fourth quarters.

"He's got a high cruising speed," Rattray said. "We were rolling along prettty solid from the start, it was a great effort. He's a great little racehorse. When you ask him for more effort he's always got something there."

Rattray said comparisons to former stable star Beautide were not unfair, with Ignatius by Roll With Joe out of Ashkalani, a half-sister to the two-time Inter Dominion winner.

"They are very similair. They race pretty similair too. He's very fast, Ignatius, when you want him to be and he's probably a little bit more versatile than Beautide."
