The Gunbower Tennis Club will be hoping the Grassroots Gold GoodForm Game Plan serves up an ace this Sunday.

The tennis club will be the beneficiary of a $500 Game Plan wagered on the  Gunbower Family Hotel Pacing Cup program.

About 50 members are involved in the tennis club, which plays an important role in the Gunbower community, according to club president Rob Gundry.

“We are an inclusive, welcoming club and anyone can attend our Wednesday training and social night where we hold a barbecue and a meal together,” he said.

“This is becoming increasingly vital to our community as we continue to suffer the effects of low rainfall and the downturn to the local agricultural industries.”

The tennis club has two senior and junior teams participating in the Northern District Lawn Tennis Association and also runs a junior program, which is administered by volunteers.

“We are one of the smallest clubs in the competition but manage to field as many teams as the bigger clubs,” Mr Gundry said.

“We appreciate this opportunity to be involved with HRV’s Grassroots Gold and we will be encouraging all of our members to attend the Gunbower Pacing Cup meeting as they have in the past.

“Some of our members are also members of the harness committee and many of our families enjoy a relaxing day out at the trots.

“Any funds raised through Grassroots Gold will contribute towards the cost of new nets and subsidising our junior coaching clinics, which are usually run over the summer school holidays.”
