Every Saturday, Ryan Phelan hunts for the most reliable locks to strengthen your multi bets. By analysing race maps, sectional times, and key trainer/driver combinations, he delivers sharp insights to add confidence - and a touch of excitement - to your harness racing, thoroughbred, or sports multis.
Each selection is rated with low, medium, or high confidence and includes a suggested place or win price. The goal? Minimise risk, maximise consistency, and stack the odds in your favour for a strong overall return.
Race 1 – 1720m Lionheart Security Pace
1/9 Dance Affair – Jordan Leedham/Philip Chircop
Dance Affair is worth sticking with after a brave front-running effort last time against stronger opposition. He looks better suited here with a sit, and if he sees daylight, expect him to sweep home strongly late.
Confidence: High Rated Place Price: $2.00
Race 2 – 1720m Prydes Easifeed Pace
2/11 Hes All Torque – Glen Craven/Peter Manning
Hes All Torque has been very good this campaign when doing everything right, and he finally broke through with a well-deserved win last start. He draws wide again, but under similar race shape, he should be hitting the line hard late.
Confidence: Low Rated Place Price: $2.50
Race 3 – 1720m Mimosa Homes Pace
3/4 Hes From Heaven – Craig Demmler/Jess Tubbs
Hes From Heaven has been racing well without much luck and finally draws a gate to use his tactical speed. If he can roll forward and reproduce his strong sectionals from recent runs, he’ll be right in the mix.
Confidence: Medium Rated Place Price: $1.70
Race 4 – 2240m Dynamic Print Group Pace
4/2 Surfingmakescents – Kerryn Manning/Kerryn Manning
Surfingmakescents resumed off a long break in great fashion, winning impressively against the mares. She takes on the boys here, but her gate speed is a big asset and she’s capable of giving them something to catch with the right trip.
Confidence: Low Rated Place Price: $1.40
Race 5 – 2240m Garrards Horse & Hound 3yo Trot
5/6 Mystery Fred – Jason Lee/Peter Manning
Mystery Fred has been honest all prep but let himself down last time when galloping late after looming up to win. It’s the same line-up here, so if he trots cleanly, he’s right in this.
Confidence: Low Rated Place Price: $2.80
Race 6 – 1720m IRT Trot
5/4 Gotfeelingsyouknow – Ross Payne/Chris Svanosio
Gotfeelingsyouknow impressed with a dominant win two starts ago and followed it with a game second behind a classy type. He maps to lead here, and over the short trip, he’ll take plenty of running down.
Confidence: High Rated Win Price: $1.40
Race 7 – 2240m Swift Signs 3yo Pace
6/8 My Ultimate Barney – Jordan Leedham/Andy Gath
My Ultimate Barney has been taking on older rivals for much of this prep and more than holding his own. Back in his own age group, and with his prior form, he gets a genuine chance to bounce back.
Confidence: Low Rated Win Price: $2.80
Race 8 – 1720m Breeders Crown Noms On Harnessweb Trotters FFA
8/6 Aldebaran Zeus – John Caldow/Brent Lilley
Aldebaran Zeus is the class of this field and loves the sprint trip. He’ll need to come with one big run from the draw, but at the price, he is worth a small play to close out the night.
Confidence: Low Rated Win Price: $8.50
