The man who drove the first ever trotting race winner at Traralgon, and the man who drove the last winner there, will combine on Sunday in a bid to win this year's Traralgon Pacing Cup.

The feature event, run at Warragul, has attracted eight starters, vying for $10,000 in total prizemoney.

Veteran horseman Gordon Turner, who produced Idle Wilkes to win the first race run at Traralgon in 1975, races Misty Cullen with his wife June. The couple bred the pacer, trained by their son-in-law Gary Quinlan.

Gordon Turner also won the Cup race with Desert Frost in 1979, so has waited a long time for a second Cup victory.

Chris Alford, who drove the Terry Scanlon trained The Skinner to win the last trots race staged at Traralgon in 1995, will drive Misty Cullen on Sunday.

The champion horseman is looking for his sixth win in the Traralgon Pacing Cup, which would see him equal the great Ted Demmler for the most number of winners trained and/or driven in the event by an individual.

Last year's Cup winner Hurricane Stride returns in a bid to become the first horse to collect two Traralgon Pacing Cup wins.

Sunday's race recognizes two decades of trotting at Traralgon. Some years after racing ceased there, the Pacing Cup was re-introduced at Warragul and this year carries a record prizemoney pool.

First race at Warragul on Sunday is just after 12:30pm, and a seven race program also includes the $10,000 Ken Miller Memorial Pace, sponsored by the Warragul and District Light Harness Club.
