Harness Racing Victoria (HRV) has doubled its Very Special Kids 3AW 24-Hour Treadmill Challenge participation rate.

As reported earlier this week, HRV General Manager – Marketing Andrew English will hit the treadmill from 8.30am until 9am on Friday morning during Neil Mitchell’s show on 3AW, and the trots will be represented again later on Friday afternoon by HRV steward Nick Murray.

Murray will run from 5.30pm until 6pm on the Tom Elliott drive show and is pleased to be able to support the Very Special Kids’ cause.

“Twelve months ago our daughter Sienna (five years old at the time) was diagnosed with Medulloblastoma, a form of brain cancer. She immediately underwent surgery to have the brain tumour removed at the Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH),” Murray said.

“To follow was an intensive radiation treatment regime at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre every weekday for a period of six weeks and thereafter an eight-month period of chemotherapy treatment at the RCH.

“Fortunately we have recently received an extremely favourable outcome for Sienna (now 6 years of age) and her future.”

Murray said his daughter’s illness had given him and his family a special appreciation for the work done by Very Special Kids and similar groups.

“Being engrossed in this environment has made us appreciate that other children have less favourable outcomes and that is where organisations such as Very Special Kids and other like support networks are so vitally important for children and their families in the most difficult of circumstances,” Murray said.

“Therefore any support or donations that can be provided to Very Special Kids is going to continue to help those kids and their families that are in the most dire of situations.”
