Aldebaran Demi, a three-year-old filly who was part of the Follow A Foal project, an initiative of Harness Breeders Victoria, broke maiden ranks when she produced a withering finish to win at Kilmore on Thursday last week.

The daughter of the deceased Aldebaran Eagle (USA) had been placed at her previous three starts.

Aldebaran Demi, who was bred by Aldebaran Park, was knocked down for $10,000 at the Australasian Premier Trotting Sale in 2020 with five percent of the proceeds donated to the Children’s Tumour Foundation and WomenCan, charity partners of Follow A Foal.

“At Aldebaran Park we were delighted to have been associated with the Follow A Foal program as part of our ongoing promotion of Harness Racing to the broader community and in support of WomenCan and the Team Teal campaign which raises much needed funds for women’s ovarian cancer research and awareness,” Aldebaran Park principal Duncan McPherson OAM said.

Aldebaran Demi is a member of Chris Svanosio’s Romsey team.

She is the fifth winner out of the 10-time winner and Group 1 placegetter Aldebaran Maori and thus a half-sister to the Breeders Crown champion Kyvalley Kyrie, evergreen trotter Fear Not and unbeaten four-year-old Aldebaran Dino.

Aldebaran Demi was one of three graduates from the APTS sale bred by Aldebaran Park to salute during the week. The others were Hidden Fire, a maiden winner at Ararat, and Aldebaran Huey (Geelong).

Hammer’s Law and Muscletonian, both graduates of the APTS sales, quinellaed the main trotting race at Globe Derby Park, while Queen Invasion, a graduate of the 2019 sale, notched her third win from her last four starts at the Ballarat metropolitan meeting.
