There were plenty of eyes on Just Believe at Tuesday’s Melton trials, and the superstar trotter impressed with a dominant display in what was his last public appearance before leaving for Sweden next week.
And reinsman Bailey McDonough, along with the camera technology provided by Campbell’s Comments, has put us in the driver’s seat as the Jess Tubbs-trained trotter zips home in a slick 55.19sec final half to win the trial by 14.5m.
“It was pretty windy out there today, so I just let him roll through that first 800m pretty casually but after that he stepped it up and he probably needed to be urged a little bit with no horses coming at him, but he was still strong to the line,” McDonough said after the trial.
“He felt like he could have run another lap at that speed…”
Just Believe is booked to fly out from Australia on May 16, with the Elitloppet scheduled for May 28 at Solvalla in Stockholm.
