Multiple Derby winning trotter Kyvalley Hotspur completed a quartet of country cup successes when he led all the way in the Aldebaran Park Bendigo Trotters Cup.
The son of Muscle Hill began with his customary slickness off 10 meters to work his way to the lead with two laps to travel while the $4.60 favorite Im Ready Jet was tardily away from her 30 meter backmark settling 20 meters off the field.
When Chris Alford allowed Kyvalley Hotspot more rein with 400 metres to travel he quickly put a gap on his rivalsm and although Iron Love narrowed the margin to three meters on the line,the result was never in doubt.
The Brent Lilley trained six-year-old has now added the Bendigo Cup to the silverware he collected from taking out the Yarra Valley, Cobram and Charlton Cups in the past five months.
“He seems to love these long distance cups,” Alford said.
“Once he found the front he was always going to be hard to beat and he sprinted up really well around the bend, but he can do that,” he said.
Alford said the winning margin was closer than he expected.
“He felt strong during the race and I thought he was going to win quite comfortably but the second horse came late and got pretty close, but I think he would have found a bit if he was challenged,” he said.
Alford said Kyvalley Hotspot was a notch below competing with the likes of Just Believe and Co. at the elite level.
“He’s not quite up to the really good ones but these standing start distance country cups are his go until he is handicapped out of them,” he said.
Kyvalley Hotspot is a son of the grand producing broodmare Love Ya Doosie who is a daughter of Sheezadoosie, the mother of 2012 Inter Dominion Trotters Grand Final winner I Can Doosit.
