Bronte Nieuwenburg has outlined her selections and suggested game plan for Thursday's card at Ballarat.
R1 – 5.30pm – ballarattrottingclub.com.au Trot – 1710m
5 – Tiney
8 – Fling It Rainbow
11 – Charlie Walker
12 – Major Max
Tiney has been out of the winner’s circle for quite some time, but he did it tough last start in the breeze at Melton and finished off well to run second with Lauren White in the sulky. His sectional times improved significantly in that run. Lauren takes the reins again tonight, and if he can produce a similar performance, he’s a genuine chance to get back into the winner’s circle.
BACK: 5 Tiney – 2 units (win)
R2 – 6.03pm – Alfredton Laundry Trot (2nd Heat) – 2200m
9 – Rarity Rock
4 – Beautiful Sunrise
3 – Ikara
8 – Scar
I’ve been really impressed by Rarity Rock this campaign. He’s a tough horse with a big heart and always gives his all in every run. He doesn’t have the most electric turn of foot, but if he’s in the front half of the field, he’s always digging in up the straight. He was solid last start, racing in the breeze and finishing third. Three starts back, he drew barrier 9 at Ballarat, the same as tonight, and won well. This race suits him.
BACK: 9 Rarity Rock – 2 units (win) / 2 units (place)
R3 – 6.30pm – Hewitt & Whitty Pace – 1710m
7 – I Am The Storm
2 – Montana Pride
3 – Rise Above All
9 – Scherger That
R4 – 7.00pm – Natures Cargo Pace – 2200m
7 – Follow The Eclipse
4 – Littleblabbahmouth
2 – Wow You Can Dance
6 – The Mountain
R5 – 7.37pm – Ferndale Foods Pace – 2200m
2 – Redbank Molly
1 – Tophut Johny
3 – Yankee Gambler
5 – Im The Wild One
The McNaulty/Herbertson trainer-driver combination is one of the best in Victoria, and they team up tonight with Redbank Molly. Her recent runs have looked only fair to the eye, but her sectional times have been much stronger than they appear on face value. She’s had a freshen-up and comes into this with a good barrier in what looks to be an even field.
BACK: 2 Redbank Molly – 2 units (win)
R6 – 8.07pm – Easy Waste Pace – 1710m
9 – Four Lonely Night
2 – My Darling Devine
6 – Freak Out
1 – Reinder
R7 – 8.37pm – Ballarat Vet Practice Trot – 1710m
6 – Aldebaran Abel
5 – Claudys Hero
4 – Artigas
8 – Exasperation
This is a quality trot featuring several talented runners progressing through their grades, making for a highly competitive race. Aldebaran Abel boasts the best quarter speed in the field, but he’s also shown he can do it tough, giving driver James Herbertson plenty of options. Herbie also holds a 100% winning strike rate on this horse.
BACK: 6 Aldebaran Abel – 2 units (win)
R8 – 9.07pm – Cooke & Foley Pace – 1710m
6 – My Darling Dancer
8 – Kimchi
1 – El Awoman
3 – Etiz Amodel

** A betting unit is typically a percentage of the total bankroll or the amount of money you are willing to risk on a particular bet – for example 1 unit is 10% of your bankroll, therefore with a $100 bankroll 1 unit equals $10.
