Victorian raider ready for a trip to New South Wales

A simple case of searching for the best option has resulted in Le Belle Bijoux heading interstate this weekend.

Fresh from her win in Melton a fortnight ago, Le Belle Bijoux will contest the Stylish Memphis Stake at Club Menangle on Saturday night.

Trainer Kari Males stated the opportunity for the mare to compete against her own sex and for higher prizemoney was the driving force behind the decision.

“We were looking at the program, saw this race was on and decided it was the best option,” Males said. “It’s a $30,000 race against mares, so she’s off to Menangle.

“We’ve got no specific targets for her, and I haven’t even looked at what races are around after this week, so it will be a case of searching for the best option again.

“If that means staying closer to home and racing in Melton or heading back to Menangle, then so be it.”

One of two Victorians in the field, Le Belle Bijoux has drawn barrier five over a mile.

“It’s not the best draw, but not the worst either,” Males said. “Hopefully she can slot into a good position early and come home strongly.”

Despite her solid form of two wins and four seconds from her last eight starts, TAB Fixed Odds have the daughter of Art Major listed on the fifth line of betting at $10.

Although first-up since her success in Menangle on May 4, Major Delight is a $1.75 favourite for premier Victorian horsewoman, Emma Stewart.

Boasting an imposing record of 18 wins and four placings from 23 starts, Major Delight has drawn the widest of 10 runners.

“Emma always has her team ready to win first-up, so Major Delight is clearly the one to beat,” Males said. “There is some strong form and speed drawn inside us as well, so the tempo could be on early.”
