Cravache back from illness, but setback ruins Queensland plans

Victorian 3YO Trotting Colt/Gelding of the Year Cravache Dor will not be seen in Queensland during the winter carnival with illness derailing his most recent preparation.

While the horse has recovered and recommenced work at the Yabby Dam Farms facility near Ballarat, the health hiccup means the star squaregaiter will not be back at the races until later in the year.

Trainer Anton Golino said Cravache Dor had been the backbone of a potential trip north with a team of trotters, but admitted those plans were shelved due to the setback.

“He got crook so I stopped with him,” Golino said.

“He was basically a start from scratch job. There was no injury or anything, he got sick and it just lingered for a little long.

“In the end I just stopped with him, gave him a break and went again. He’s just come back in.”

Cravache Dor enjoyed an outstanding 2022 campaign, winning the Group 1 Need For Speed Prince Final, Victoria Trotters Derby Final and Vicbred Super Series 3YO Colts and Geldings’ Final to take his career record to 12 victories from 21 starts.

Golino said a tilt at this year’s Vicbred Super Series was unlikely, with a slow and steady preparation aimed at getting the son of Orlando Vici back racing late in the season.

“I won’t rush him, I’ll just take it easy with him,” Golino said.

“I’m not that fussed on racing them a heap at four.”

Stablemate Im Ready Jet has also returned to work, with plans in place to send the gun mare overseas for racing and breeding purposes.

Yabby Dam Farms principal Pat Driscoll told thetrots.com.au in May that he wanted to send the multiple Group 1 winner to France later this year, but Golino has suggested a trip to the United States might be more likely.

“I’d say we’re more leaning towards the United States than France to be honest,” Golino said.

“France is probably a bit tough for her there.

“It’s honestly up to Pat. I’ll get her ready as if we’re going to race her here and when the time comes, he can make his decision on what he wants to do. I’m not too fussed either way.

“It’s more a case of just going over there and getting her in foal to something we can’t get here and something we can’t get frozen.

“It’s not really much about the racing side of things.”

Im Ready Jet was crowned the Victorian Aged Trotting Mare of the Year for 2022, and is a winner of 20 races and more than $500,000 in prizemoney.
