Ladies In Red wows again with stunning Angelique win

Ladies In Red showed us why she’s a generational talent with yet another breathtaking victory at Tabcorp Park Melton.

The Emma Stewart-trained wonder mare sat parked for the last lap and clocked a personal last half mile of 55.36sec while fighting off Dougs Babe (Geoff Webster/Michael Bellman) and stablemate Treachery (Mark Pitt) to win the Group 3 Angelique Club Pace by a head.

It was a simply sensational display in the driving rain by Ladies In Red, who had to overcome a back row draw during a race of many moves.

The triumph – in a mile rate of 1:53.3 (2240m) – took her career record to 20 wins from 25 career starts.

Driver David Moran must be running out of ways to describe the four-year-old superstar, but tried his best after securing a 16th victory with the horse.

“She’s a plain little girl, but she’s got everything,” he said.

“She’s got great manners. You can chase her out and she’ll come straight back to you. She’s just the perfect racehorse that anyone could ever wish for.”

Saturday night’s race was leg two of the Elizabeth Clarke Mares Triple Crown, with the opening event won by Tough Tilly back on October 8.

The third and final race in the series is the Group 1 Queen Of The Pacific, which will be Ladies In Red’s next assignment on October 29.
