Trots pod: Tooth Be Told featuring Tom Hogan

Tom Hogan has laid bare his life of trots ownership, punting and bookmaking in the latest Tooth Be Told podcast, hosted by Paul Campbell.

In a 40-minute chat for Harness Racing Victoria’s podcast channel, Trots Media, the man known as Tara Tom shared his long involvement in the industry, including his punting entry into the trots.

“I never virtually had a job, I worked for Bill Hutchison – he was a very good teacher of how to do the form. I worked for him part-time, mainly when he was short and at bigger meetings,” Hogan said.

“And Garry Ewen got a bookmaker’s license too and I worked for him. He was very good as well. They educated me a bit, and then I started going to the trials with Hutchy and picked up pieces. By the time I was about 23, 24 I was hitting my straps as a big punter. Don’t worry, I had the ups and downs. Went broke a few times.”
