Farewell to a champion – Ladies In Red to be celebrated on VSS Finals night

Champion pacer Ladies in Red is being honoured as one of the greatest mares to grace the track in the build up to Vicbred Super Series finals night at Melton Entertainment Park.

The 6yo mare was retired from racing late July in Brisbane, and it’s fitting she is to be celebrated at the track where she dominated in so many feature races, including the Vicbred Super Series 3yo Fillies Final.

Owners Bill and Anne Anderson of Lauriston Bloodstock have confirmed the 7-time Group One winner is enjoying a well-earned break, before being sent to the breeding barn to boom stallion Confederate.

Ladies In Red retires as a winner of 28 races from 37 starts for $1,096,480 in prizemoney.

Relive her remarkable career here and a special tribute on the big screen at Melton Entertainment Park Saturday night during the 12 Group One races of the Vicbred Super Series.

It was a day to remember for Aaron Dunn. Not only did he go back-to-back from last year to this year in the Matthews Petroleum Hamilton Pacing Cup, he also trained the quinella, with Forty Love taking the honours and last year’s winner Dee Roe finishing second, driven by Jackie Barker.

While the ink is far from dry on the $500,000 Summer Of Glory bonus cheque, superstar mare Keayang Zahara is on track to provide her connections with a windfall after her effortless win in the Group 1 $100,000 Aldebaran Park Maori Mile.
