Lumineer versus Poster Boy, Ride High and Konan is but one dish in a tasty TAB Breeders Crown treat that can be savoured today in star-studded trials at Tabcorp Park Melton.
To kick off from noon via thetrots.com.au’s streaming service, the 13-trial line-up features plenty of Emma Stewart’s dominant Vicbred Super Series runners and the contenders hoping to unseat them.
No trial will likely get more eyeballs than trial 12, a 2240m three-year-old pace that features Stewart’s brilliant trio Ride High, Poster Boy and Konan, who filled the first three placings in their Vicbred final, up against Ange McDowall’s Australian Pacing Gold winner Lumineer (pictured).
The latter was unbeaten until his last start sixth placing in the VHRSC Victoria Derby and will be having his second trial this campaign, having stepped out at Terang on July 22.
“He’s come through his trial well,” McDowall told thetrots.com.au. “He seems bright in himself. He needed the run. It is going to be a real ask to go straight into the Breeders Crown heats competing against the smart group of three-year-old boys we have this year.”
The five-horse trial field is rounded out by Gavin Lang’s Alpha Charlie, who placed fifth in the Vicbred final.
The day’s ninth trial will also be a three-year-old zinger, with Stewart’s fillies Nostra Villa and Speak No Evil to stretch their legs against her colt Major Times and Gavin Lang’s SA Derby winner Yankee Roller, winner of five of his first six starts.
The last trial will then close the day with a hearty free for all hit-out, including Trots Country Cups Champion Shadow Sax and Jilliby Kung Fu, both en route to Inter Dominion campaigns, and another frontliner in Craig Demmler’s My Kiwi Mate.
Trial six features two-year-olds Kualoa, Hardhitter and Two Times Bettor and trial two Scallywag Sam in his final tune-up for Sunday’s Seelite Windows and Doors Victoria Trotters Derby.
