Wharton: Haras Des Trotteurs branches out

Obtaining the best possible international and local trotting genetics has been the Haras Des Trotteurs/Yabby Dam Farms’ mantra since being founded by Ballarat trotting breeder Pat Driscoll in 2014.

In the upcoming breeding season the stud is offering seven chilled stallions and five frozen semen stallions.

These stallions combined with YDF consistently breeding 40 to 50 trotting mares each year indicates Haras Des Trotteurs’ commitment to not only providing quality stallions but also providing quality yearlings for the Australasian market both as racehorses and future broodmare prospects.

HDT/YDF is heavily invested in growing the Australian trotting market and providing Victorian breeders with outstanding opportunities going forward.

The stud has stallions registered and standing in Victoria, NSW, Queensland and New Zealand.

In Victoria, Callmethebreeze has joined the stallion roster this season retiring with multiple Group 1 wins in both Australia and Europe and stakes in excess of $1.8 million.

E L Titan, who is standing his second season at Goulburn Valley Equine, Shepparton, is the current leading percentage sire of two-year-old trotters in North America.

He will stand alongside Classic Connection, who has a 100 percent winners-to-starters ratio with his first crop as two-year-olds.

In Queensland, Used To Me and Always Ready will be standing at Pete and Chantal McMullen’s Somerset Farm which avails them for the lucrative Qbred Bonuses for Breeders.

In NZ standing at Wai Eyre Farm, On A Streak’s oldest crop are rising two-year-old’s and the reports from the breakers are outstanding. He will again be available to Australian breeders via chilled semen. Also standing at Wai Eyre is All Cashed Up (a son of the legendary sire of sires Ready Cash), who is only available to NZ breeders.

In NSW, Haras Des Trotteurs’ expansive frozen semen roster includes Orlando Vici (service fee $10,000 + GST), who just keeps on delivering quality horses, the dual US Breeders Crown winner Ecurie D, whose weanlings have received rave reviews, and Bird Parker, whose three yearlings sold this year for an average of $102,500.

A new stallion added to the list is Dimitri Firm, an Italian-based son of leading trotting stallion Nal Al Sheba. He was the winner of the 2022 $800,000 Italian Derby.
