LET IT RIDE – Multi plays with Ryan Phelan

Every Saturday, Ryan Phelan hunts for the most reliable locks to strengthen your multi bets. By analysing race maps, sectional times, and key trainer/driver combinations, he delivers sharp insights to add confidence – and a touch of excitement – to your harness racing, thoroughbred, or sports multis.

Each selection is rated with low, medium, or high confidence and includes a suggested place or win price. The goal? Minimise risk, maximise consistency, and stack the odds in your favour for a strong overall return.

Race 1 – 1720m Benstud Standardbreds Pace

1/4 The Steel Dragon – James Herbertson/Ashleigh Herbertson

The Steel Dragon is a lightly raced 4yo who has shown nice promise, including several solid efforts this preparation against handy opposition. He was a forgive run last start from a poor draw and looks set to enjoy a better transit tonight to hit the line strongly.

Confidence: Low   Rated Place Price: $2.00

Race 2 – 1720m Logical Staffing Solutions Pace

2/1 Triple Rock Saint – Jack Laugher/Julie Douglas

Triple Rock Saint backs up quickly after doing a power of work last start and fading late. From the pole he gets every chance to settle close to the action and give cheek at value.

Confidence: Low         Rated Place Price: $2.20

Race 3 – 1720m Ranvet Pace

3/9 Golden Shooz – James Herbertson/Jess Tubbs

Golden Shooz is a highly talented 3yo filly who contested the Victoria Oaks, winning her heat before being no hope in the final from a tricky draw. This is a far easier assignment, and with a perfect trailing draw she should simply be too sharp.

Confidence: High    Rated Win Price: $1.50

Race 4 – 1720m Garrards Horse & Hound Pace

4/9 Indi Party Mood – Nick Beale/David Miles

Indi Party Mood is racing consistently this preparation and rarely far away when the tempo allows. Another tricky race to assess, but if the speed is genuine, he will be hitting the line late.

Confidence: Low   Rated Place Price: $2.10

Race 5 – 2240m IRT Trot

5/9 Meadow Valley Star – Anthony Butt/Brent Lilley

Meadow Valley Star finds an ideal race to return to the Melton winners list. He draws to trail the right horse and brings strong, consistent form through better races than this. A suitable tempo can see him finish right over the top.

Confidence: Medium            Rated Place Price: $1.80

Race 6 – 2240m Swift Signs Pace

6/7 Hugo Rocks – James Herbertson/Ashleigh Herbertson

Hugo Rocks is winless this season but has been holding his own in far stronger company. His overall record is superior to most of these, and despite the wide draw, James Herbertson can offset that with aggression at the right time.

Confidence: Medium            Rated Win Price: $3.50

Race 7 – 1720m Dynamic Printing Group Trot

7/2 Little Yankee – Connor Ronan/Lindsay Rogers

Little Yankee drops back into the right grade after tackling tougher company without much luck. With fitness on his side and a small field, he can utilise the right tempo to be strong late.

Confidence: Low       Rated Win Price: $4.50

Race 8 – 2240m Prydes Easifeed Trotters FFA

8/3 Ollivici – Chris Alford/Chris Lang & Sonia Mahar

Ollivici looks to have returned in terrific order this campaign with two brave runs behind elite trotters. This is a significant drop in class, he maps to control the race from the front, and on sheer ability he stands out as the best of the night.

Confidence: High    Rated Win Price: $1.50
