LET IT RIDE – Multi plays with Ryan Phelan

Every Saturday, Ryan Phelan hunts for the most reliable locks to strengthen your multi bets. By analysing race maps, sectional times, and key trainer/driver combinations, he delivers sharp insights to add confidence – and a touch of excitement – to your harness racing, thoroughbred, or sports multis.

Each selection is rated with low, medium, or high confidence and includes a suggested place or win price. The goal? Minimise risk, maximise consistency, and stack the odds in your favour for a strong overall return.

Race 1 – 1720m Prydes Easifeed Trot

1/8 Six Nations – James Herbertson/Kelly Stuart-Mitchell

Six Nations looks ready to win following three strong runs this preparation. He strikes the right race and distance profile to secure an ideal trail and unleash his trademark late surge.

Confidence: High   Rated Win Price: $1.80

Race 2 – 1720m Swift Signs Pace

2/5 Ata Rangi – Kyle Marshall/Kyle Marshall

Ata Rangi’s numerical form may not jump off the page, but this is a significant drop in class. He has a strong track record against better fields and finds a very suitable race – he’ll just need luck from the run to feature late.

Confidence: Low         Rated Place Price: $2.10

Race 3 – 1720m Betavet Pace

3/8 Plains In Heaven – Kate Gath/Nathan Cahir

Plains In Heaven has been a revelation this season, earning a spot in the Victoria Cup and consistently performing against elite company. The draw isn’t ideal, but with even luck he’s right in the finish.

Confidence: Medium    Rated Place Price: $2.20

Race 4 – 2240m Dynamic Print Group Pace

4/6 Strapping Red – Ewa Justice/John Justice

Several of these met at Geelong last start, where Strapping Red was luckless from a tricky draw but still ran a strong second. She’s a fast beginner who can cross, lead, and pinch a cheap sectional – the only query is the final 200m over 2240m.

Confidence: Low   Rated Place Price: $1.80

Race 5 – 1720m Beraldo Coffee Black Friday FFA

5/8 Bulletproof Boy – James Herbertson/Scott Ewen

Bulletproof Boy is a talented campaigner but this is a tricky map from the inside back draw over the short trip. With expected early speed and a stable change for key rival Hes From Heaven, Bulletproof Boy becomes the known quantity at this level.

Confidence: Low       Rated Win Price: $2.80

Race 6 – 2240m APG – A Horse For Everyone Vicbred Super Series (4yo E & G Final) (G2)

6/1 War Dan Buddy – Ryan Sanderson/Emma Stewart

War Dan Buddy was ultra impressive winning his semi-final and now draws inside his main danger Miki To Success, who beat him two back. He’ll need to hustle early, but if he finds the top he becomes the one to beat.

Confidence: High     Rated Win Price: $1.50

Race 7 – 2240m APG – A Horse For Everyone Vicbred Super Series (4yo Mares Final) (G2)

7/1 Kiss – Ryan Sanderson/Emma Stewart

Kiss has established herself as one of the country’s leading mares, and her semi-final win from the breeze reinforced her class. She was crossed from this draw last time, so Ryan Sanderson will earn his fee, but if he gets it right, she delivers again.

Confidence: High      Rated Win Price: $1.30

Race 8 – 2240m Renown Silverware Trot

8/8 Dichotomy – James Herbertson/Jess Tubbs

Dichotomy made a mistake last start but her prior form against far stronger opposition warrants forgiveness. With manners restored, James Herbertson should get her into the contest at the right time.

Confidence: Medium    Rated Win Price: $2.60

Race 9 – 2760m Aldebaran Park Trotters Handicap

9/8 Ollivici – Chris Alford/Chris Lang & Sonia Mahar

Ollivici has returned in great order and deserved his win last time against a similar field. He’s earned the back-mark but generally begins well and carries a fitness edge, he’s the testing material again.

Confidence: Medium    Rated Win Price: $2.50
