LET IT RIDE – Multi plays with Ryan Phelan

Every Saturday, Ryan Phelan hunts for the most reliable locks to strengthen your multi bets. By analysing race maps, sectional times, and key trainer/driver combinations, he delivers sharp insights to add confidence – and a touch of excitement – to your harness racing, thoroughbred, or sports multis.

Each selection is rated with low, medium, or high confidence and includes a suggested place or win price. The goal? Minimise risk, maximise consistency, and stack the odds in your favour for a strong overall return.

Race 1 – 1720m Mimosa Homes Trot

1/11 Mister Blindside – Anthony Butt/Geoff Webster

Mister Blindside is an enigmatic but talented 4yo who strikes the easiest field he’s faced for some time. Even though he must overcome a back-row draw over the short trip, the expected genuine tempo should allow him to unleash his sharp late speed and round them up.

Confidence: High   Rated Win Price: $2.80

Race 2 – 1720m IRT Pace

2/9 Serg Blanco – Ryan Sanderson/Shane Sanderson

Serg Blanco produced a strong sectional profile at his first run for the Sanderson camp despite being no hope from a wide barrier. He should punch through behind a hot early speed this week and gets his chance to launch late at value.

Confidence: Low         Rated Place Price: $2.10

Race 3 – 2240m Jaybro – The Civil Supply Specialists Pace

3/7 Telemachus – Nathan Cahir/Nathan Cahir

Telemachus continues to suffer at the barrier draw but has been unlucky or finding the line strongly in most runs this preparation. He’s been taking on much stronger company than he meets here and, while he’ll need luck, he represents massive value more than $100-1.

Confidence: Medium    Rated Place Price: $3.50

Race 4 – 1720m Hygain Edge Trot

4/11 Quirky Character – Jack Laugher/Ross Graham

Hard race to get overly confident about with mixed exposed form and several unreliable beginners. Quirky Character appeals on the strength of the elite trainer/driver combo and his last start win at this track. Just be wary of his manners early.

Confidence: Low   Rated Win Price: $1.90

Race 5 – 1720m Logical Staffing Solutions Pace

5/1 Clymenus – Jordan Leedham/Julie Douglas

Clymenus drops sharply in class and draws to enhance his chances. He is always most effective following genuine speed, so he’ll require the right cover, but if the breaks come, he’s capable of being in the finish.

Confidence: Low       Rated Win Price: $4.00

Race 6 – 1720m Hertz Melton Pace

6/3 Kia Ora Beauty – Kerryn Manning/John Newberry

Kia Ora Beauty has already notched four wins this season. With so many runners coming through differing formlines and an uncertain map over the short course, she presents as a trustworthy option at value.

Confidence: Low       Rated Place Price: $3.50

Race 7 – 2240m Benstud Standardbreds Pace

7/6 Alot Like Louie – Laura Wilson/Laura Wilson

Alot Like Louie finds a very suitable race here dropping back in quality racing through the Vicbred Series. He can press forward from the draw here and get into a handy position and with even luck will be hard to run down.

Confidence: Medium            Rated Win Price: $3.80

Race 8 – 2240m Aldebaran Park Trot

8/5 El Resamo – David Barbetti/David Barbetti

El Resamo is a fast beginner who looks poised to take up the running. He showed how effective he is when able to lead two starts back, and his last run can be forgiven under standing-start conditions. Back to a mobile at Melton, this is a very suitable assignment.

Confidence: Medium    Rated Win Price: $3.00
