GOODFORM – Craig’s tips for Warragul Cup Day

Craig has your selections, strategy and Quaddie for Monday afternoon at Warragul

Race 1:

OVERVIEW: The Warragul Cup features the heats and the Final on the same day and it is a very open heat to commence the program. TEST OF FIRE (9) produced a stunning performance at Ballarat, where he led throughout and scored by a large margin in a mile rate of 1.55.1. He prefers to race in the front running role so being drawn on the second line is a disadvantage but he looms as a strong winning chance again. KITZBUHEL DELIGHT (7) won the Nutrien Classic last season and he should be fitter after his first up performance, where he weaved a passage from last and finished a close up fourth. ALLGOOD VINNIE (6) is racing in career best form having been placed at his past eight attempts. He has been impressive at his past two winning attempts and is capable of taking the next step forward. HELLOVASTORY (8) is awkwardly drawn but is racing well enough to feature prominently. REALLY SMARTIE (5) and EVIL EYE (10) are both capable of showing up without surprising.

SELECTIONS: TEST OF FIRE (9), KITZBUHEL DELIGHT (7), ALLGOOD VINNIE (6), EVIL EYE (10)

Race 2:

OVERVIEW: INSIDER TRADING (9) competed at Metropolitan level last outing and missed out narrowly after leading out then taking cover. He was a runaway winner prior and finished third behind the classy pacer Keayang Renegade in a sizzling mile rate of 1.52.7 three starts ago so he will prove hard to beat under these conditions. SPORTS WRACK (10) is dropping back to a more suitable class and is starting to lift his numerical form. He chased hard when second behind Sols Me Name at Cranbourne last outing and is worth an investment. LONGTAN VIPER (4) has been placed six times in succession and is versatile. He finished off strongly from the second half of the field to win at Shepparton then worked hard in the run at his latest second so he cannot be left out of calculations. POSTERIZED (5) met a smart one in Romeo when unplaced last outing and was able to lead throughout at Melton prior. He should be building on his fitness after his first up run and a forward showing is expected. The fast beginners CALEDONIAN RANGER (3) and MONSIEUR FLAMEL (7) are both racing well enough to figure in the finish.

BACK: INSIDER TRADING (9) – 2 units (win)

SELECTIONS: INSIDER TRADING (9), SPORTS WRACK (10), LONGTAN VIPER (4), POSTERIZED (5)

Race 3:

OVERVIEW: SAHARA SEAKRET (2) was resuming since December when second behind Uptown Chance in a mile rate of 1.53.9 at Wagga. He should be fitter from that run and he has been placed in all of his four starts to date so he must be respected. BELLA LOUISE (5) is a speedy mare that is dropping back in class for this assignment and should be hitting the line strongly if she gains the right trail forward. KATIE LORRAINE (3) worked forward to find the lead, appeared to be very lazy in the front running role but was strong once challenged at the finish and won nicely on debut. She should have improved with the experience and is nicely bred so she is capable of taking the next step forward. BOUNCED (4) and ISLAND YANKEE (6) are racing well enough to be considered as place hopes.

SELECTIONS: SAHARA SEAKRET (2), BELLA LOUISE (5), KATIE LORRAINE (3), ISLAND YANKEE (6)

Race 4:

OVERVIEW: MISTA WALKER (6) is clearly the horse to beat after his two recent victories against very similar opposition. He sprinted quickly via the sprint lane at the end and won clearly last outing so he is a good chance of completing a hat trick. LOVE WHO (3) went back at the start, settled last and was very wide on the home turn when sixth at Bendigo on Wednesday night. He does possess early speed and was placed behind Scar in a stronger race two starts ago so he is worth another chance. CHRISTMAS BABE (4) hasn’t been at her best form recently but she is a brilliant beginner and her favourite conditions are when she can lead over the sprint distance so she is a possible improver. ATEGO ADA (7) returns to Victoria after having two starts in New South Wales, which yielded a second at Goulburn and a ninth at Menangle. She has been unplaced in two recent trial performances but strikes a suitable assignment for her Warragul debut.

SELECTIONS: MISTA WALKER (6), LOVE WHO (3), CHRISTMAS BABE (4), ATEGO ADA (7)

Race 5:

OVERVIEW: GALLICO (8) was resuming since February when a narrow second behind Treacheroustimes then was unsuited in a slowly run race and couldn’t make up ground in a slick final quarter of 28.1 seconds at Ballarat. He possesses a very consistent record and should be reaching his peak form after having two starts back from a break so he warrants respect. HOLD ON FOREVER (6) delivered a career best performance when he settled three back on the markers and charged home to win in a slick mile of 1.55.8 at Cranbourne. He is not as well drawn for this assignment but must be considered as a winning chance again. IFYOULOVEMELETMEGO (7) finished off well to score at Geelong two starts ago and is backing up quickly after her effort at that track on Friday night. She usually performs best when she can lead out then take cover so the barrier draw is a disadvantage but she is racing too well to dismiss. MIKI MARK (5) was headed off at the start, trailed the leader and tried hard for second behind Alcatraz Girl at Shepparton. He is usually competitive against this class and is worth a ticket each way.

BACK: GALLICO (8) – 2 units (win)

SELECTIONS: GALLICO (8), HOLD ON FOREVER (6), IFYOULOVEMELETMEGO (7), MIKI MARK (5)

Race 6:

OVERVIEW: THE PREACHER (4) is a classy 3yo trotter, which won a heat of the Nutrien Classic at Wagga then followed with a second in the $125,000 Final. He continues to perform well at feature race level and should prove hard to beat. KIMBERLEYS TREE (2) is resuming since a second behind the smart mare Miss Ohana at Shepparton in May 2025. She will be fitter after two recent trial performances and has the ability to figure in the finish. EL CONQUEROR (5) commences off the tough mark of 50m but he is a Country Cup specialist and his last win was in the Echuca Cup back in January. He did pick up a lot of ground when commencing from the handicap of 60m two starts ago. QUEEN KIZEN (3) worked forward to find the front and battled on fairly well for third behind the tough campaigner Tictok at Bendigo last outing. She does perform well from the standing start and is worth an investment.

BACK: THE PREACHER (4) – 3 units (win)

SELECTIONS: THE PREACHER (4), KIMBERLEYS TREE (2), EL CONQUEROR (5), QUEEN KIZEN (3)

Race 7:

OVERVIEW: HIGHLAND HARTBREAKA (8) has been performing soundly at Metropolitan level and was runner up behind Gunforhire in a strong mile rate of 1.56.1 (2240m) at his latest attempt. He appears to be well placed against this line up and will prove hard to beat. WE DEALIN DIAMONDS (1) is a speedy type that is perfectly drawn to suit his racing patten. She has been unplaced in all of her three starts since resuming but she should be reaching her peak and she did post a very quick mile rate of 1.52.4 at a Wagga victory during her last preparation. PATIRO (7) hasn’t performed up to expectations at his three starts since coming from New Zealand but his latest fourth was encouraging, where he was held up for a run at a vital stage and finished off well. He is the class runner of the field on assessments and if he can return to the form he showed across the Tasman, he would be hard to beat against this line up. DRESSED IN GOLD (6) is a fast beginner and will appreciate a drop back in class for this assignment so he is not without a chance.

BACK: HIGHLAND HARTBREAKA (8) – 3 units (win)

SELECTIONS: HIGHLAND HARTBREAKA (8), WE DEALIN DIAMONDS (1), PATIRO (7), DRESSED IN GOLD (6)
