Trailblazing driver Kerryn Manning faces another lengthy stint on the sidelines in the aftermath of her fall at Melton last night.
Scans today revealed the five-time Australian premiership winner had fractured three vertebrae – L1, L2, and L3 – and one of them was slightly displaced.
“I’m waiting to hear from the Royal Melbourne back specialist as to what needs to be done or it’s nothing, then I can go home for a rest and some good painkillers … which so far aren’t doing much,” she said.
Manning went home after the fall, but the pain increased through the night and she went for scans today.
“Judging by the pain, I wasn’t expecting a good outcome and sadly it’s not,” she said.
“It is just over three years ago I did the same three fractures on the other side, how’s the irony.”
That was in a fall at the Horsham trails in late July, 2023.
Manning had almost two months out then.
“This time hurts much more than that last time,” she said.
Manning was deemed unfit to drive after a nasty pile up sparked by Auston galloping on the first turn in last night’s Vicbred 2YO colts and geldings pacing final.
Ironically, Auston’s driver Mark Pitt replaced Manning on Some High and went on to win the race.
