Kilmore raced on Wednesday, October 14, with a highly interesting program, highlighted by an emotional and adrenaline-filled victory in the opening event, the OKRFM Vicbred Voucher Pace over 1690 metres.
The race was taken out by Four Ever A Star, a nine-year-old mare by Four Starzz Shark out of Gabbys Sweetheart, raced by local identity Lisa Horton.
Trained at Kilmore by Rita Burnett, Four Ever A Star carried the colours of Lisa’s late partner, Leon Conway. Driven by James Herbertson, the mare began quickly from gate three to lead before being eased to take a trail behind Our Mystery Bet (gate five), enjoying the run of the race.
Producing a strong finish via the sprint lane, Four Ever A Star certainly lived up to her name on the night, charging home to score by a head over Our Mystery Bet in a mile rate of 1:59.9. Sterling Gigi, who raced exposed after working three wide from outside the front line, finished third, 3.2 metres away.
Paying $25.30 on the single-pool tote, Four Ever A Star provided a surprise result, with the quinella returning $224.00 and the trifecta $2260.00.
Although Rita is the registered trainer, Lisa deserves plenty of credit, spending time with the mare every day of the week. Her dedication has now been rewarded with a memorable victory.
