OVERVIEW: It has been a somewhat consistent theme in this year’s Inter Dominion series that the preliminary draws, while completely random, have often appeared more like preferential draws and that theme continues here with the three highest quality horses engaged all drawn off the second row. First, let’s examine what will happen early. On a front line largely devoid of early toe JOES STAR OF MIA (1) should hold all his rivals wide into the first bend. If that happens we should expect a relatively sedate opening 400m before SPANKEM (9) who ran the hands off the clock with a mind-boggling final half on Tuesday night cruises around to occupy the breeze or perhaps even make a play for the lamplighting role. The abject control SPANKEM (9) would have over the race in either role from that point forward should ensure he walks away with another 16 points here with only three threats among his nine adversaries. The most pressing danger if he follows through along the poles and gets the perfect trail is WRAPPERS DELIGHT (8) who has serious high speed as part of his arsenal but respect should also be paid to JOES STAR OF MIA (1) who is better known as a miler but does boast a win and a close up second placing behind Tiger Tara at his last two runs over 2300m at Tabcorp Park Menangle. The only remaining chance of causing a mini-upset is GALACTIC STAR (10) but one would expect he’d need to somehow stay in front of SPANKEM (9) early to put himself in the frame.
