Rapt with her maiden Group 1 triumph, Amy Day was quick to share the spotlight in Melton tonight.
Day trained and drove Adelaide Red to cause an upset in a Breeders Crown final as a $51 outsider and was quick to acknowledge her father, Neil.
Neil prepared Adelaide Red during her first six starts, which netted three placings and three fourths.
One of those placings was a second in an Australian Pacing Gold Final in Melton on July 25.
Adelaide Red has had four starts in Day’s care for two wins and a pair of seconds.
“It’s a little bit surreal, but what an amazing feeling,” Day said. “This is as much Dad’s Group 1 as it is mine as she started off in New South Wales with Dad.
“I was fortunate enough Dad left her here after her second in the APG final and she has done a terrific job since.
“She deserves it this little filly. She has been a terrific racehorse, and it is great to have this win next to her name.”
Beginning well from barrier four, Adelaide Red raced half a length in front of Elle Perfecto before being eased to take a trail behind the pole-marker.
Enjoying the run of the race, Adelaide Red finished strongly along the sprint lane to score from Elle Perfecto and Jilliby Aura in 2:01.4 over 2240 metres.
“Once she was able to cross and get to the pegs it was a bonus as she got the perfect trip after that,” Day said. “Turning for home she was travelling so well, and I was just hoping she could finish over the top down the sprint lane.
“I’ve always had a lot of belief in her as she is so honest and tries her little heart out.”
