An extraordinary showdown that could well shape the summer.

That's what presents after tonight's drawing of the PETstock Ballarat Pacing Cup field, with Shepparton Cup rivals Spirit Of St Louis (gate one) and Lochinvar Art (gate two) set for another great bout while Max Delight (gate three) and Expensive Ego (gate nine) also loom large.

An outstanding field has fronted for the coveted Group 1, which promises to kick off the TAB Summer of Glory in great style this Saturday night.

Anthony Butt, who joined Gareth Hall and Nikkita Ross for tonight's TrotsVision broadcast, will steer Amazing Dream in the Cup, with the Nathan Purdon-trained mare lobbing gate 11, from where Butt said "she'll get back in the field and take her chance late in the race".

However, while the draw's made it difficult for Butt to potentially add a third Ballarat Pacing Cup to his cabinet, he said it had made for what looms as a great race.

"I wouldn't be surprised if Max Delight crossed them all in the first 200," he said. "He'll be desperate to get to the fence and then he can hand up to who he likes. The big guns are all drawn pretty good, it's going to be a good race.

"There's four at least top chances. Expensive Ego's flying, Lochinvar Art, if he improves off last week's run, Spirit Of St Louis, you can't take too much away from him, Max Delight sitting in a trail - you'd never count him out either."
