David Moran's trip to New South Wales went awry when his champion Lochinvar Art had to be withdrawn from a Miracle Mile tilt, but the Kialla trainer-driver still got some Group 1 glory on Saturday night with his beloved gelding Patsbeachstorm.

The three-year-old, who almost died to what’s presumed to have been a spider bite last year, produced a scintillating turn of foot in the home straight to claim the $200,000 APG NSW Derby at Tabcorp Park Menangle.

"He's only had a handful of starts and had a tough 12 months," Moran told Sky Racing after the victory.

"He's just a beautiful horse and just probably like your best mate that no one dislikes. He's just the most perfect animal.

"It's great for the owners. They put in a lot of money, have a lot of good times with their horses and it's a privilege to train a horse like him."

After drawing barrier eight, Moran put the son of Somebeachsomewhere in the death seat early and then found a spot in the one-one for much of the 2400m trip, before unleashing him around the home turn. He had four metres to spare over Emma Stewart-trained and Greg Sugars-driven Jacks Hawk on the line, with Watts Up Sunshine third in the time-honoured feature.

Shortly after that success, Moran jumped in the sulky behind Belinda McCarthy-trained Expensive Ego and ran second to his stablemate King Of Swing in the $1million Miracle Mile.

Anthony Butt and Sonya Smith-trained Wolf Stride ran third, with fellow Victorian horse Out To Play (Clayton Tonkin/Greg Sugars) last in the field of eight.

Earlier, New Zealander Majestic Man grabbed his third win at the elite level to cap off a brilliant Australian hit-and-run mission.

The Phil Williamson-trained squaregaiter led from start to finish in the Aquagait Equine Centre Trotters Mile at Tabcorp Park Menangle in a mile rate of 1:53:5min.

Williamson's son Brad was once again in the sulky and barely had to flinch as the six-year-old raced clear in the home straight to beat Victorian-trained duo Always Ready (Anton Golino and Jack MacKinnon) and Pink Galahs (Matthew Craven).

The result backed up the Group 1 VL Dullard Trotters Cup and Australian Trotting Grand Prix triumphs at Melton.

Williamson and Majestic Man had been staying with Butt and Smith in Melton and will now head home to New Zealand.
