Cohen and his little Buddy ready for Major things in 2024

The future of harness racing is shining bright, with the next generation of drivers making their way through the pony trot ranks.

Cohen Tindale is one of the many youngsters learning the sport and he has already started to make a name for himself with star pony Buddy Major.

For the 13-year-old son of well-known trainers Beau and AJ, harness racing has always been part of life.

“My Mum and Dad have always owned horses,” Tindale said. “I just saw it one day when I was about six or seven years old.”

The thrill of winning and the friends within the pony community keeps Cohen coming back for more.

“I like doing the pony trots, it’s very fun,” he said. “It’s very competitive the races and some country cups are very competitive.

“All the pony trot drivers are all mates.”

This year, Cohen is looking to go back-to-back in the Metropolitan Championship.

“I won it last year. This year we had a bad start. Hopefully I can get him (Buddy Major) back and he can trot good again,” he said.

The late nights and early mornings are all a part of the job according to the teenager.

“We start at 8am and finish at midnight,” he said.

“I would like to be a driver one day.”
