There are no additions to the Trial File Black Book this week but we still have a list of horses worth following (published at the bottom of this report).

TERANG 29/12/19

Trial 1: - The handy 3yo performer JAEDEN took out the opening trial over the South Australian Kindergarten Stakes winner DOCTOR FOX, which has come back to racing in good form. The mile rate was modest at 2.4.1 but they slipped home in a quick final half of 56.8 seconds. The former South Australian pacer WHATS STANLEY GOT, which hasn’t raced since finishing third in the Lordship Stakes at Globe Derby in July, finished in third position ahead of BAKERS BANDIT, KEAYANG REMI (Western Terror – Major Day 2.0.6, $27,671) and SPACEWRITER came in last of the six runners.

Mile Rate: - 2.4.1             Final Half: - 56.8               Margins: - 3m, 10m

Trial 2: - SARA INGOT hasn’t raced since June 2018 but she was successful in reasonable time. She defeated the lightly raced maiden BROOKLET ROSE with the 3yo trotter OLLIE JACK, which showed a lot of potential in the early stages of his juvenile season, finishing in third position. The 2yo pacer OCTOBER REIGN (Sportswriter – Show Me Amber 1.58.7, $64,151) came in last of the four runners.

Mile Rate: - 2.1.5             Final Half: - 60.3               Margins: - 6m, 25m

Trial 3: - JILLIBY MAKO has had a run of bad barrier draws at his most recent race track appearances and he is a horse that races best when he is able to run along in the lead. He ran a quick final half of 56.2 seconds to take out the third trial from the trotter KEAYANG LIVANA with JILLIBY ROY (We Will See – Jilliby Mia) finishing in third position. MALIBU JACK has been in winning form at the races and he was in fourth spot ahead of the unraced trotter MISS SWEDEN (Majestic Son – Zoia Boko), which saw the field safely home.

Mile Rate: - 2.1.0             Final Half: - 56.2               Margins: - 15m, 1m

Trial 4: - NANCYS BOY was taken up to Queensland for a shot at the Derby last season and was able to score at his latest performance at Terang. He beat a very good field in fast time so he obviously produced a big trial performance. The open class star and Len Smith Mile place getter JILLIBY BANDIT finished in second position with the Chariots of Fire winner and Miracle Mile runner up JILLIBY KUNG FU finishing in third. KEAYANG SECRET ran last of the four in what was a hot field to wrap up the trials at Terang.

Mile Rate: - 1.59.9           Final Half: - 55.6               Margins: - 2m, head

MARYBOROUGH 29/12/19

Trial 1: - SAVANNAH JAY JAY delivered an outstanding performance to beat the Metropolitan class pacers including the recent Melton winner in BETTOR BE THE BOMB. He settled four back on the inside before dashing around the field to lead at the mile marker then proceeded to run along at a genuine tempo. He held off BETTOR BE THE BOMB to win in handy time. The only disappointing aspect of the trial was the fact he galloped just after the post but it was a great hit out for the Maori Mile at Bendigo. BETTOR BE THE BOMB led out then took cover and used the sprint lane to go down narrowly. GOLLAHMAN was able to trail BETTOR BE THE BOMB before coming to the outside to race without cover with 600m remaining. He finished third in front of BEACH BOY ADIOS, which remained in last position from the 1600m mark.

Mile Rate: - 1.58.0           Final Half: - 57.8               Margins: - Short Head, 5m

Trial 2: - JERICHOS TRUMPET was able to find the lead from the 1800m mark and ran along at a genuine tempo. He recorded a handy mile rate and ran away from his two rivals to win by a large margin. That was a good hit out for his effort in the Cobram Cup on the weekend. SONNY BROOKE got in behind the leader and lost ground late. She finished second in front of FORGOT TO REMEMBER, which worked to the front in the early stages and broke stride, losing all chance.

Mile Rate: - 2.0.9             Final Half: - 59.4               Margins: - 30m, 200m

Trial 3: - MISS MCGONAGALL is a tough mare and produced a good effort to win the trial from ALPE DE HUEZ. She began well but had to be hustled hard in the early stages to eventually gain the front running role with a mile remaining. She then kicked on well to hold off the challenge of ALPE DE HUEZ in the straight. ALPE DE HUEZ settled five back on the inside before moving into the one out and one back trail at the bell. He finished off soundly and just failed to overhaul MISS MCGONAGALL. BARBIE MATTGREGOR came from four back on the markers and finished third in front of TOREA LANE (3 back markers), which was held up for a run at a vital stage and finished off nicely when she gained a clear passage. GOLLAHGOLD showed gate speed to lead and went very quickly with MISS MCGONAGALL early but the effort took a toll and he tired into fifth. JULES PEACH raced out three wide early before moving into the death seat with 1500m remaining and tired over the latter stages.

Mile Rate: - 1.58.4           Final Half: - 58.8               Margins: - Nose, 5m

Trial 4: - MY HONEY DON’T (Dream Vacation – Feona Joy) was able to lead all of the way in a trial where most of the field made errors. She led comfortably and was able to run away at the finish albeit shifting out under pressure. ALDEBARAN PHOEBE trailed the leader throughout but lost ground in the straight and finished in second position. SPEEDWAY QUEEN made an error in the score up and switched into a pace before she broke stride and got going into a trot again. She finished a distance away in third position. ESSEX PLAYER (Andover Hall – Another Player 2.4.0, $62,088) and LUTETIA (Quaker Jet – Pepperell Magic) both galloped in the score up or at the start and were tailed off for the entire trial. COULD IT BE broke stride when settling three back on the markers with 1800m remaining then broke stride again at the bell and finished off a distant last.

Mile Rate: - 2.5.6             Final Half: - 61.4               Margins: - 12m, 50m

Trial 5: - HIGHCHAIR (Julius Caesar – Diamonds Inthedark) trailed the leader and appeared to be under pressure on the home turn before lifting in the straight and winning the trial from MONSIEUR DELACOUR, which settled last of the four and moved up without cover from the 700m mark. He hit the lead on the home turn but couldn’t repel the late challenge of HIGHCHAIR. RENA MAJORE (Art Major – Sheena Rena) settled three back on the markers and only beat the early leader PURSUITOFHAPPYNESS (Western Terror – Landscapeartist 1.58.0, $32,575) to the line.

Mile Rate: - 2.1.8             Final Half: - 59.3               Margins: - Neck, 8m

Trial 6: - LOUIEVILLE LASS produced a big performance to win the trial after she raced without cover early, dropped back to last then moved into the death seat again with 900m remaining. She drew to the lead at the 700m mark and dashed away at the finish to win by a comfortable margin. MAJESTIC JEWEL trailed the leader and tried hard in second position ahead of PIESRIDINGSHOTGUN, which settled three back on the inside. ARAIGNEE FLAIR settled four back on the inside and was making some ground approaching the home corner before galloping with 200m remaining. She finished fourth ahead of LA SERENA (Quaker Jet – Donegal Flat), which settled five back on the markers before moving into the one out and one back trail and galloping with 300m to travel. SUGAR HIGH (Peak – Sugar Times) showed good gate speed to lead but was overtaken and yielded ground from the 700m.

Mile Rate: - 2.6.5             Final Half: - 59.9               Margins: - 8m, 15m

Race 7: - ILLAWONG KELLIE (Art Major – Illawong Kath 1.55.2, $72,718) took out the trial for the juvenile pacers by leading throughout. She raced greenly and wanted to lay down into the sprint lane in the straight but she won by a comfortable margin. ROCK RUBY ROCK (A Rocknroll Dance – Tactical Attraction) settled three back on the inside and moved into the death seat with 500m remaining. She finished second ahead of TANGANYIKA (Mach Three – Leda McNally 1.54.0, $422,323), which settled last of the four runners, raced greenly, and picked up some ground late. JOES WATCHING (He’s Watching – Mach’s Factor 2.3.0, $4,559) trailed the leader and finished last of the four runners.

Mile Rate: - 2.13.3           Final Half: - 63.6               Margins: - 3m, 4m

Race 8: - NAMOSCAR has been going nicely at the Maryborough trials and was able to lead throughout and win easily. SHOWMETHECASH settled three back on the inside and was able to drive through and trail the leader with 500m remaining. She finished second ahead of MONTPELLIER, which battled on well after racing without cover for the duration. IMA ZIABEE finished fourth after being four back on the markers throughout. CELTIC CASH galloped at the start and was tailed off throughout. CADENZA trailed the leader, came to the outside in the back straight on the final occasion and broke stride on the home turn thus finishing in last.

Mile Rate: - 2.4.0             Final Half: - 59.6               Margins: - 6m, 10m

Race 9: - PACIFIC ROCK (Pet Rock – Shesasign) trailed the leader and came to the outside approaching the home turn before sprinting home nicely and winning with something in reserve. NEVER TOO OLD (Julius Caesar – Miss Bonton 2.1.7, $37,916) was last on the markers for the first lap before moving up without cover from the bell. He hit the lead on the home turn before being gunned down late. ORPHAN CODY dropped back to third after setting up a slow tempo in the lead. CREATIVEACCOUNTANT (Modern Art – Mymumsabankmanager 1.58.8, $16,203) finished last of the four runners after settling three back on the inside.

Mile Rate: - 2.8.7             Final Half: - 59.1               Margins: - 4m, 4m

Trial 10: - THE SUMMER CAT stepped away nicely and got in behind the leader. He showed a good turn of speed and was able to win with something in hand at the end. STRAZEELE stepped away well to find the front and ran along at a reasonable tempo. He boxed on nicely for second in front of ANGELS BREATH, which settled three back on the markers. MAORISHADOW was slow into stride and lost approximately 20-30m at the start. She tacked on at the mile marker and moved up without cover in the back straight before galloping at the 300m. She was making up ground again after she got back down pacing. DANCINGALLALONE broke stride at the start and at the 1200m then again at the 700m so he was on his worst behaviour. TRAVEL BUG settled four back on the markers and also experienced gait issues in the final circuit as he broke stride just beyond the half mile marker and again on the home turn.

Mile Rate: - 2.6.5             Final Half: - 61.1               Margins: - 3m, 5m

Trial 11: - SURBITON ARMISTICE began fairly well and was able to angle in behind the leader on the first turn. He circled around to find the lead at the 1100m mark then always appeared to be in control of the trial thereafter. JEDSTAR led out then took cover mid-race and tried hard for second. ARRJAYS TRAPPER broke at the start and was always detached from the leading pair, finishing a distant third. EN ESPECES LIBRE (Ready Cash – Kincasalough $133,286) finished last after she wanted to throw her head in the air and raced greenly but kept trotting at the start then proceeded in racing greenly throughout, yielding ground very early in the trial.

Mile Rate: - 2.15.8           Final Half: - 62.9               Margins: - 5m, 20m

TERANG 02/02/20

Trial 1: - LUVHAVINFUN was unplaced at her first run since returning from a brief Sydney campaign but she was able to race to an easy trial victory at Terang where she defeated JACKS COMMAND and GOODTIME FLOYD. Mile Rate: - 2.0.5             Final Half: - 58.0               Margins: - 13m, 1/2head
