Credulous looks to keep her perfect start at new home in tact at Ouyen

Mick Carbone will be hoping Credulous can build on her perfect start since joining the stable when she tackles the Greggs Electrical Ouyen Pacing Cup on Sunday.

Prior to arriving at the Carbone yarn, the four-year-old was in the care of Alex Ashwood.

The pacer found success at her first start for Carbone in Bendigo, scoring in the VHRC Benstud Standardbreds Pace.

“She came over from Alex (Ashwood) and Tay’s (French), and went out for a three-month spell. She had a couple of nice trials, we put her in at Bendigo and we had a nice win,” Carbone said.

The Axedale trainer had the mare scheduled for a race at Echuca prior to booking her a place in the $12,000 feature at Ouyen.

“We had her entered for Echuca on Wednesday (13/03/24), but the field didn’t stand up. She worked good, so we thought we might as well have a crack at the Cup,” he said.

Carbone has had to contend with the temperament of the four-year-old.

“She can get a bit eager during trackwork, but Stacie (Carbone) my daughter does all the trackwork,” he said.

Credulous has drawn two at Ouyen with Michael Bellman booked to pilot.

“That’s the reason why we looked at the race, we were looking at somewhere where we could get a good draw and settle handy,” he said.

“But she has got a good turn of foot. If she settles well and the race is run genuine, she could get home nicely.

“She has got the gate speed, so she could lead or she could hold up. She doesn’t need to hand up, she can do it in front,” he said.

Recent Gunbower Cup winner, the Andrew German-trained All Da Rage, has drawn 12, while the Joe Costa-prepared Bettor Star will start from the pole in gate one.

The Greggs Electrical Ouyen Pacing Cup is set to go at 4.54pm.
