Delighted set for Graeme Lang Memorial challenge

Delighted after Delighted’s first start, Kylie Sugars hopes to be just as delighted after the two-year-old’s second outing in Melton tomorrow night.

Sugars’ delightful state stems from Delighted completing a perfect debut in Melton a fortnight ago.

With Mark Pitt holding the reins, Delighted scored by five metres from Lolly, with Thecandybarheiress adding to Sugars’ delight by finishing third.

“They both did well,” Sugars said. “Delighted showed a bit of dash, which she hadn’t shown at the trials.

“She seemed one-paced at the trials, which is what her work had also been like, but she showed a good turn of foot at the races.

“Thecandybarheiress has done well in her two runs. She has shown some gate speed, and after doing a bit of work in her last start, she hit the line well.

“The race experience has served Delighted well as her work has picked up and she seems a bit more focused.

“Everytime you take them to the track you’d like them to be better and I think she is better from that run.”

As for the upcoming Melton meeting, Delighted and Thecandybarheiress will clash once again as they “step up in class” for the Graeme Lang Memorial.

Sugars is set to partner Thecandybarheiress from barrier two, with Pitt retaining the drive behind Delighted from gate three.

Despite Delighted’s win and Thecandybarheiress’ pair of placings from two starts, the fillies are among the outsiders in early markets at $19 and $41.

Recently-crowned Vicbred Super Series champion Kyvalley Dixon is a $2.20 favourite from barrier seven, with Sugars positive the Brent Lilley-trained trotter is the one to beat.

“Kyvalley Dixon has the score on the board and seems to be a very smart type,” Sugars said. “Zippin Past is a speedy little filly and has to be respected even from six.”

The meeting honours Victorian harness racing legends Graeme and Gavin Lang, with the Scotch Notch for three-year-old colts and geldings, the Aldebaran Park Graeme Lang Memorial for two-year-old trotting fillies and the Aldebaran Park Gavin Lang Memorial for two-year-old trotting colts and geldings.
