Donna Castles has shared her emotional battle with cancer as the reinswomen and her colleagues drive the Pacing for Pink initiative.

Long-time the force behind the movement that tackles breast cancer by supporting the McGrath Foundation, Castles sat with thetrots.com.au's Nikkita Ross to share her own story that unfolded amid the heralded fundraising and awareness campaign.

"Back in 2016 while I was organising the Pink Day with Marg (Watson) up at Cobram I got diagnosed with breast cancer, all of a sudden it hit home that it was quite important," Castles said.

"It's very scary. The main thing that went through my head is I won't see (my daughter) Georgia grow up, I won't see her get married, finish school."

She said the diagnosis and subsequent treatment reinforced the importance of the participant-led campaign, which this year includes a major fundraising day at Shepparton on May 23.

"It's really important, because I might sound nieve, but I didn't think I'd ever get breast cancer," Castles said. "I didn't check myself and I think people should - go and get checked, because the sooner they can knock it on the butt hopefully you can be cured."
