Bronte Nieuwenburg has outlined her selections and suggested game plan for Wednesday's meeting at Bendigo.
R1 – 6.23pm – Get Real Support Teal Mares Pace – 2150m
9 – Our True Colours
8 – Final Bow
6 – Littleblabbamouth
10 – Bettorsweetvictory
The emergency in this field, Our True Colours, gained a start and has become my top pick for this event. He has the best recent 400-metre sprint in this field, having come wide last start and flashed home to finish a close second to Polly Peachum at Kilmore. He has the perfect barrier here to be saved for one run and utilise his fantastic speed late.
BACK: 9 Our True Colours – 2 Units (win)
R2 – 7.03pm – Dennis Engelbo Racing - Swedish Media Partner Pace – 1650m
10 – Shaq
11 – Jilliby Typhoon
13 – Soho Playgirl
8 – I Of The Hurrikane
Although Shaq placed seventh last start, beaten 24.2 metres, his run was huge as he had to cover an extra 30 metres, being stuck wide and doing it tough. The start prior, he also won despite having to do it tough. He’s racing so well and can win here if he finds luck from the awkward barrier.
BACK: 10 Shaq – 2 Units (win)
R3 – 7.33pm – Yorkshire Park Standardbreds Pace – 2150m
9 – Lochiel Lad
5 – Madam Reactor
4 – Nomorelying
6 – Owen The Saints
R4 – 8.03pm – Aldebaran Park 2yo Maiden Trot – 1650m
3 – Iconic Image
1 – Aldebaran Tucker
2 – Truscotts Elegance
8 – Whatta Summer
My favourite races to watch are two-year-old trots, and this is the first of the year here in Victoria. Iconic Image was my pick from the 2024 Nutrien Melbourne Yearling Sale out of the trotters. His conformation was beautiful, and he looked very strong. His recent trial impressed me, running good time at Maryborough. He is also the first foal of super sire Six Pack to race in Australia. My only concern for him is that he was quite green when winning his trial at Maryborough. If his manners are good here, he should be winning, although stablemate Aldebaran Tucker also looks to be a classy type
BACK: 3 Iconic Image – 2 Units (win)
R5 – 8.36pm – The Edge Equine Trot – 2150m
5 – Locksley Cavalier
6 – Mac Flick
8 – Dossier
3 – Dels Destiny
Locksley Cavalier was a very impressive three-year-old last season, taking on the best, including Keayang Zahara and Valtino. This looks like a much easier race for him, even though he is first-up. I’m really looking forward to following him this season and seeing how far he progresses, as he looks like a very talented trotter.
BACK: 5 Locksley Cavalier – 2 Units (win)
R6 – 9.03pm – Rothacker Stockfeeds Trot – 2150m
8 – Tictok
1 – Thats Dudley
2 – At The Distance
5 – Black And Gold
R7 – 9.33pm – Sandhurst Stockfeeds Trot – 2150m
7 – Frosty Girl
1 – Amour Maternal
8 – Watch And Act
6 – Ox Knox
Frosty Girl had to do it tough last Saturday night, coming wide at Melton in the Lyn McPherson Memorial Breed for Speed Bronze Series Final and covering an extra 28 metres. She was only beaten by 8.9 metres in the run behind the talented mare Nabrina. She does look to be the class runner in this event.
BACK: 7 Frosty Girl – 2 Units (win)
R8 – 10.03pm – Garrards Horse & Hound 3yo Maiden Pace – 1650m
4 – Divine Tilly
1 – King Saint
2 – Korengal Valley
7 – Catherine

** A betting unit is typically a percentage of the total bankroll or the amount of money you are willing to risk on a particular bet – for example 1 unit is 10% of your bankroll, therefore with a $100 bankroll 1 unit equals $10.
