Ryan Phelan has done the form for Cobram Cup Day Monday afternoon.

R1 – 1:11pm – Ron & Lorraine Emerson Pace - 1670m

4 – Dallas Charlie

3 – Crafty Old Fox

5 – Beryls Grin

1 – Courts Bliss

Dallas Charlie strikes a winnable race here and is also the horse with the most recent victory on the board, back in August. In that win at Mildura he was driven aggressively to find the lead and won well. Even though his recent form isn’t dazzling, this race is a significant drop in class.

BACK: 4 Dallas Charlie - 2 Units (win)

R2 – 1:44pm – Peter Ennals Pace – 2170m

5 – Direct Command

6 – Sirius Major

2 – Bronski Moment

3 – Harley Blue

R3 – 2:19pm – Cobram Hotel Trotters Handicap – 2170m

5 – Dances

6 – Prettyboy Harry

4 – Straight To Thetop

1 – Oprah Double You

Dances has been in a purple patch of form this campaign, largely due to being well placed by Donna Castles and her good manners. Despite being off a 30m handicap, I expect Dances to begin quickly and look for the front as she has done in her two most recent victories.

BACK: 5 Dances - 1 Unit (win)

R4 – 2:52pm – Central Murray Credit Union Cobram Trotters Cup – 2678m

3 – Maestro

5 – Kings Guard

7 – Berriesandcherries

6 – Hephaestus Phoenix

A fascinating edition of the Cobram Trotters Cup with several ways to approach the race. Stablemates Hephaestus Phoenix and Brandlo Prince come with Melton form, yet are a query at the trip, Kings Guard might give away an advantage under the stand conditions and Berriesandcherries has a big handicap to overcome. That leaves me with Gunbower Cup winner Maestro, whose good manners and front row draw will see him give a big sight at value.

BACK: 3 Maestro - 0.5 Unit (win) 0.5 Units (place)

R5 – 3:30pm – Jim Phillips Memorial Cobram Pacing Cup – 2170m

3 – Sirlou

4 – Big Bad Ossie

10 – Bizzness Class

5 – Wind Sock

Sirlou has been immense in his three career starts winning all of them, a credit to the patience of trainer Craig Turnbull and connections. He now finds himself in a country cup at start four and whilst he gives away experience, on what we’ve seen, he is a serious horse. The times he is running are superior to these and can continue his winning ways.

BACK: 3 Sirlou - 3 Units (win)

R6 – 3:57pm – Lloyd Sound Maiden Pace – 1670m

5 – I Am On Therun

1 – Village Suspect

7 – Captains Dream

4 – Rocket Me

I Am On Therun finds a perfect race to notch up his well-deserved maiden victory. He’s been a runner up in all three career runs, with all of them in solid company and in good time. The most recent he was game sitting parked and stuck on bravely. He simply looks better than the opposition.

BACK: 5 I Am On Therun - 3 Units (win)
