Race 1:
OVERVIEW: MISSMALACHITE (7) has been freshened since a fourth at Horsham on June 22 and appears to be hard to beat against this line up, despite the wide draw. She has been placed in four of her past six starts including a Charlton victory in April and she is more versatile than most in this field. THE IRISHMAN (3) raced without cover throughout when third at Ballarat two starts ago then endured a similar trip at his latest seventh. He is drawn to obtain a prominent position and he should run a handy race. BAYSIDE VICTORY (6) will appreciate a drop back in class for this assignment and is a possible improver. He led early then took cover after copping pressure mid-race when unplaced at Mount Gambier last outing. ELLI JOH (4) performed below expectations when unplaced at Ballarat last outing but he possesses early speed and finished fourth after leading at Kilmore prior so he is worth another chance.

Race 2:
OVERVIEW: SHORE BET (5) progressed forward to find the lead shortly after the start and battled on fairly well when third behind Lake Como when on debut at Maryborough. He should have improved with the experience and is worth an investment. BANGBANG BOBBIE (4) is a first starter for trainer Matthew Craven, which performed fairly at a recent Terang trial effort with a distant fourth and strikes a suitable assignment first up. BEACHBOY BRUCE (1) raced greenly when on debut but was holding his own over the latter stages after hanging out badly on the home turn. He is better drawn for this assignment and should have derived benefit from that performance so he is worth thought. MIKI SHADOW (3) was headed off at the start and ended up being three back on the markers when a reasonable fourth at his first run since February. This race is no harder and he is worth a ticket each way.

Race 3:
OVERVIEW: MAGELLAN (6) pushed forward to find the front and was run down in the last stride when second at Stawell then followed with a fifth at Horsham, where she raced without cover throughout. She is worth thought under these conditions. DEVEREAUX (2) is resuming since a very unlucky second at Mount Gambier on debut where he broke stride at the 1300m and chased hard in the last lap. This is a stronger field but he must be kept safe. EL LAZZAR (4) scored at Charlton two starts ago after he pushed forward to find the lead shortly after the start. He is worth thought from his good draw and OUT TO STAY (7) has been below his best in three starts back from a spell but would take beating at his best form.

Race 4:
OVERVIEW: VINNY ROCK (3) settled midfield and raced fiercely throughout the middle stages before making a move at the 600m when a handy third behind Jilliby Sniper at Horsham last outing. He ran a brave second at Mildura prior and is ready to break through for a win against this class. WE FAVOUR ROSIE (2) finished second in the same race at Horsham last week after she led out then took cover at the 1100m before using the sprint lane. She is drawn to gain a similar trip so she should run a good race again. HELLAVA DEAL (4) is resuming since a sixth at Horsham back in May and hasn’t been to the trials. She recorded a strong victory at Charlton during her last preparation and will be competitive if she was somewhere near her peak. FIVE CENT (7) is a strong staying type, which finished off well for third behind Let’s Go Lorna in harder grade last week. He is awkwardly drawn but should make his presence felt.
BACK: VINNY ROCK (3) – 1.5 units (each way)

Race 5:
OVERVIEW: BETTORPATCHMEUP (1) trailed the leader and obtained an inside run in the latter stages when second behind Foregone Conclusion at Ballarat. He is ideally drawn and is maintaining a consistent form line against this class so he warrants consideration. SEA FLYER (2) was held up for a run at a vital stage and didn’t have a great deal of luck when fifth behind Keayang Hungry at Horsham last outing. He is racing well and rates as a value hope. IMALLATTITUDE (5) settled in the second half of the field, angled out three horses wide from the 600m and finished off best to win at Ballarat last week. He is racing in career best form and is one of the leading chances again. PRESIDENTIALCHANGE (4) began brilliantly to find the lead from the outside of the front line when he scored at Stawell two starts ago. He is a good chance of finding the lead again so he is not without a chance.

Race 6:
OVERVIEW: The manners of KEAYANG TWEETYBIRD (9) hold the key to the result of this event. She is very good when she puts it altogether as evidenced by her runaway victory at Terang on July 12. Unfortunately, she has made errors at her past three attempts, but she did step away very fast from the standing start at Maryborough before galloping on the first turn. OFF YOUR FACESKI (10) missed away from the standing start at Stawell two starts ago but he did very well to recover for fourth. He followed with a close up fourth at Melton and should be competitive if he gets away safely. SONARMI JOH (8) is a standing start specialist and continues to build on his consistent record. He was uncharacteristically slow away from behind the tapes but recovered to finish third last outing so he is worth a ticket each way. ITGETSBETTER (3) is racing well and did a good job to finish fourth after sustaining a flat tyre at Ballarat last week. He is worth thought along with MATTYO (2), which performs best when he is close to the speed.

Race 7:
OVERVIEW: JILLIBY KYMY LOU (5) performed below expectations at Horsham last week but her brave and narrow second behind Fiction File in a slick mile of 1.54.3 at Geelong on July 17 is a good form pointer for this event. She will take catching if she is able to find the lead here. YANKEE MOJOH (9) has been racing well at Mount Gambier and gets into this race with the aid of a concession claim. He finished off best via the sprint lane to defeat Keayang Hungry (won since) then followed with a second behind the handy pacer Keayang Payton. HUXHAM CHUBB (6) worked hard early, gained a trail then was held up behind tiring runners when an unlucky fourth behind Let’s Go Lorna at Maryborough last week. He was able to score at Terang on July 12 and should go well under these conditions. KEAYANG SUPREME (8) is drawn behind a fast beginner in MY BEAUTIFUL LIFE (1) and has the ability to feature prominently with normal luck in running.

Race 8:
OVERVIEW: KEAYANG SWEETHEART (9) will appreciate a significant drop back in class for this assignment and should prove hard to beat. She recorded a slick mile rate of 1.54.2 at a Melton victory on June 27 and she did a lot of work at her latest eighth (9m) behind I Am The Storm in 1.52.3 last time out. SAVON DE ROCHE (8) has returned from a spell in career best form having won at both of her attempts after racing on the outside of the leader throughout on each occasion. She kicked on strongly to defeat two of today’s main rivals in KEAYANG VIPER (2) and RANGER RICK (5) at her latest Horsham victory so she will make her presence felt with normal luck in running from her awkward draw. KEAYANG VIPER (2) won at her first three attempts and fought on well after setting the speed when second behind SAVON DE ROCHE (8) last time out. She is clearly the most inexperienced horse in the field but she appears to be very promising and is drawn to give another forward showing. RANGER RICK (5) is a versatile pacer and hasn’t finished further back than fourth at his ten starts for the season. He should run his usual honest race from his reasonable draw.
