GOODFORM – Craig’s selections for Mildura Friday

Craig Rail has your tips, strategy and Quaddie for Friday afternoon at Mildura

Race 1:

OVERVIEW: It is a tough race to commence the program with four horses making their debut. CRUSEY (7) is a South Australian trained filly that won a trial by a comfortable margin at Gawler and posted a mile rate of 1.58.1. She obviously has ability and should gain an economical run from the trailing draw so she must be respected. LATHER WITH FIRE (1) was placed at his latest Bendigo trial effort behind Ruggards Gee Tee in a mile rate of 2.2.0. He is perfectly drawn and warrants respect. ALL DONE TARA (8) has been performing consistently at the Bendigo trials and should go well first up. She won at her latest trial over Always Benefits in a reasonable mile rate of 2.1.3. NO GOOD REASON (4) is a former New South Wales trained pacer, which joins Naomi Kerr. She showed some promise in the Hunter Valley region and won a trial at Mildura on Monday night so she cannot be left out of calculations.

SELECTIONS: CRUSEY (7), LATHER WITH FIRE (1), ALL DONE TARA (8), NO GOOD REASON (4)

Race 2:

OVERVIEW: APOLOGY ACCEPTED (8) did well during the Mildura Cup Carnival and followed with a second behind the handy pacer Royal Saxon on April 17. He has missed out at his past three attempts but he gets his chance to improve against this line up. OUR MASTER PLAY (4) has been below his best form recently but he should go well against this class. He left a trailing position to move up without cover and peaked late at Ouyen last outing. THE AFRICAN QUEEN (6) settled three back on the inside and finished off fast to win when resuming at Ouyen. She is likely to settle a long way back from the wide draw but should be finishing off strongly again. ROCKING WROXTON (3) is a good chance of working to his favourite position of being the pacemaker and is not without a chance.

SELECTIONS: APOLOGY ACCEPTED (8), OUR MASTER PLAY (4), THE AFRICAN QUEEN (4), ROCKING WROXTON (3)

Race 3:

OVERVIEW: NOBLE TRICK (4) was out five horses wide approaching the home turn and finished off boldly for third behind To The Nines last week. He was competing in the open class events prior including an eleventh in the Ouyen Cup and he appears to be much better placed against this opposition. NEVS DREAM (1) is a fast beginner and performs best when she is able to lead. She attempted to lead throughout when second in the race won by To The Nines last outing and the shorter distance of this assignment is an advantage. KEAYANG MOROCCAN (7) was unplaced in the Ouyen Cup last outing and is likely to find this assignment to be easier. He has the perfect trailing draw behind the likely leader so he is capable of improving on his numerical form. MIDNIGHT PIRATE (2) and UNITED (3) are both capable of showing up without surprising.

BACK: NOBLE TRICK (4) – 2 units (win)

SELECTIONS: NOBLE TRICK (4), NEVS DREAM (1), KEAYANG MOROCCAN (7), MIDNIGHT PIRATE (2)

Race 4:

OVERVIEW: CRUEL MISTRESS (3) settled in seventh position and finished off well in the latter stages when a game second behind Seaside Show last week. This is a race of similar standard and she is worth thought again. FRENCH BEACH (6) finished third in the same race last week after trailing the leader throughout. She faces a negative swing in the barrier draw but she might be able to fill a place again. POSTER ART (4) failed to run on as expected when fifth last week but she was runner up behind Ravishing Roxy prior and strikes a suitable assignment now. DESTINY KEPT (10) struck trouble at her latest seventh and is a possible improver under these conditions.

SELECTIONS: CRUEL MISTRESS (3), FRENCH BEACH (6), POSTER ART (4), DESTINY KEPT (10)

Race 5:

OVERVIEW: ROYAL SAXON (2) continues to race in great form and is a big chance of leading throughout. He parked on the outside of the leader throughout when a brave second behind Midnight Pirate at Ouyen at his latest attempt. SHORELINE DREAM (3) looms as the logical danger. He was resuming since the Super Series in November when he scored comfortably at Globe Derby and he has the early speed to be prominent throughout. RED HOT MIKI (1) is yet to be placed in twelve starts for the season but he is drawn to receive the perfect trip behind the likely leader ROYAL SAXON (2) so he might be able to improve on his record here. THEBUCKSONYOU (5) was held up for a run over the latter stages and should have finished closer at Ouyen. He should be nearing his peak form after having two starts since a spell and has the ability to figure in the finish.

BACK: ROYAL SAXON (2) – 2 units (win)

SELECTIONS: ROYAL SAXON (2), SHORELINE DREAM (3), RED HOT MIKI (1), THEBUCKSONYOU (5)

Race 6:

OVERVIEW: NO EMOTION (11) settled at the tail of the field, was held up for a run at a vital stage and ran home strongly late when an unlucky second in his heat of this series. He has to overcome a tough draw again but he is the class runner of the field. GROVE DALE (1) led from the inside draw, raced very fiercely and established a big lead mid-race when a brave third last week. He is drawn to lead again and is a winning chance if he settles better mid-race. PUNTO CALIENTE (2) gets into this race well being a heat winner and will be hard to hold out in the run to the finish. LOVE TO DEAL (8) is usually competitive against this class and has claims from this trailing draw. HESASTAR (6) has been placed in three of his past five starts against similar opposition and is worth a ticket each way.

BACK: NO EMOTION (11) – 1.5 units (each way)

SELECTIONS: NO EMOTION (11), GROVE DALE (1), PUNTO CALIENTE (2), LOVE TO DEAL (8)

Race 7:

OVERVIEW: HUNGRY HOGARTH (3) settled at the tail of the field from a poor draw, came out four horses wide from the 500m and sustained a long run when a game third behind LOSEASHOE (10) last week. He moves to the front line now and is a tough type so he should prove hard to beat. WHATA OPTIMIST (2) is racing consistently in South Australia and has won a race at Mildura previously. He is drawn to gain a trail just off the speed and should run his usual honest race. ROCKNROLL LENNY (9) raced without cover throughout and went down fighting when second behind Mister Boombastik last week. He tends to perform best when he is close to the lead so being drawn on the second line is a disadvantage but he cannot be left out of calculations. RUBBLEONTHEDOUBLE (6) and GLITZY ALL OVER (7) are both racing well enough to figure in the finish with the right luck in running.

BACK: HUNGRY HOGARTH (3) – 1.5 units (each way)

SELECTIONS: HUNGRY HOGARTH (3), WHATA OPTIMIST (2), ROCKNROLL LENNY (9), RUBBLEONTHEDOUBLE (6)
