GOODFORM – Craig’s Stawell Selections for Monday

Craig Rail has you strategy, tips and Quaddie for Monday afternoon at Stawell

Race 1:

OVERVIEW: WESTERIA (5) is a juvenile filly that is taking on older horses but she is ready to break through for a win. She settled three back on the markers, moved away from the inside on the home turn and finished off solidly for a narrow second behind Gozo Sweet at Cranbourne last outing. LOOK AT HER (4) is racing in career best form having been placed in four of her past five starts. She attempted to lead throughout when a close up third ($1-80 fav) at Cranbourne last outing and should be prominent throughout. BETTING ATTACK (2) is a fast beginner and is drawn to give a forward showing. He dragged a flat tyre so he had excuses at Echuca last outing and he was narrowly beaten at Ballarat on June 25. SPORTY ROCKS (7) was runner up at Terang when on debut then was spelled after a disappointing sixth ($1-80 fav) at Mount Gambier. She is better than her last run suggests and is worth another chance.

BACK: WESTERIA (5) – 1.5 units (each way)

SELECTIONS: WESTERIA (5), LOOK AT HER (4), BETTING ATTACK (2), SPORTY ROCKS (7)

Race 2:

OVERVIEW: SOLO SAPPHIRE (7) produced a career best performance when she settled four back on the markers, was held up for a run at a vital stage and finished fast via the sprint lane at her latest third. She made errors in her attempts prior and is a winning chance if she delivers another fool proof display. SPESHAL (3) led out then took cover at the 1600m and tried hard via the sprint lane when second at Maryborough last week. She has been placed in four of her past five starts and should prove hard to beat against this line up. I AM SKYE CHIOLA (4) broke stride momentarily at the start and was left stranded without cover at the 1500m when a close second behind Aspen Belle at Charlton last outing. She is racing in good form and is worth a ticket each way. THE PASO DOBLE (2) settled three back on the markers and failed to run on when seventh at Melton last outing. He was placed at Geelong prior and this race appears to be easier so he warrants consideration.

SELECTIONS: SOLO SAPPHIRE (7), SPESHAL (3), I AM SKYE CHIOLA (4), THE PASO DOBLE (2)

Race 3:

OVERVIEW: RANGER RICK (5) settled in a rearward position, came out three horses wide from the 800m and picked up ground for a handy fourth in a mile rate of 1.54.2 at Melton last outing. He began fast to lead and was run down on the line when a close second at Horsham prior so he should be competitive under these conditions. OUR ULTIMATE GRACY (3) led throughout to win at Bendigo two starts ago then attempted to lead throughout at her latest close up fourth at Terang. She is drawn to obtain a prominent position again and must be considered as one of the leading chances. ROCKNROLL WILLOW (6) performed below expectations when a distant seventh at Melton last outing but her overall form is very strong and she is worth another chance. She is undefeated in two starts at Stawell and has won three of her five starts for the season. WICKED MITZI (2) and FERRIGNO (4) both performed reasonably well at their first up performances and are not without a chance in a strong race.

BACK: RANGER RICK (5) – 1.5 units (each way)

SELECTIONS: RANGER RICK (5), OUR ULTIMATE GRACY (3), ROCKNROLL WILLOW (6), FERRIGNO (4)

Race 4:

OVERVIEW: ROMANTIC NINA (3) settled midfield and broke stride over the latter stages when unplaced at Maryborough last outing. She is a speedy mare and defeated the in-form trotter Fremarks Peggy at Maryborough in June so she is worth thought from the front line. SONARMI JOH (7) is a fast beginner and a standing start specialist. He has commenced from big handicaps in most of his recent performances and is maintaining a consistent form line so he is worth a ticket each way. SOSOMAJESTIC (6) should be nearing his peak form after having three starts back from a long break. He came out wide from midfield in the back straight when sixth behind the smart trotter Keayang Tweetybird at Terang last outing. WHOSHOTTHEPIEMAN (2) is resuming since a second behind Keayang Bazlenka at Maryborough in October. He has performed nicely in two recent trial performances and should be in for a good campaign.

SELECTIONS: ROMANTIC NINA (3), SONARMI JOH (7), SOSOMAJESTIC (6), WHOSHOTTHEPIEMAN (2)

Race 5:

OVERVIEW: IMALLATTITUDE (6) has been racing in great form and broke through for a deserved maiden success at Maryborough last week, where he was driven aggressively mid-race. He usually comes with one last run at the leaders so his latest victory was very good and he is capable of winning again. PRESIDENTIALCHANGE (7) was restrained to a rearward position from a similar wide draw and couldn’t work into the race when sixth at Terang last outing. He was a winner at Horsham on June 22 and he appears to be well graded against this field so he is worth another chance. TORQUE IN HEAVEN (8) is shooting for a winning hat trick and is capable of completing the task. He settled midfield, trailed into the race from the quarter pole and finished off best to win last outing. DANCEBYTHESEASIDE (5) pushed forward to race without cover and battled into fifth last outing. He was placed at Maryborough prior and he is likely to utilize his gate speed to be prominent throughout.

SELECTIONS: IMALLATTITUDE (6), PRESIDENTIALCHANGE (7), TORQUE IN HEAVEN (8), DANCEBYTHESEASIDE (5)

Race 6:

OVERVIEW: MARGARITARI (9) has been very consistent in seven starts since resuming having not finished further back than fourth. She settled three back on the markers, and worked into a close up third behind the handy type Isthisthereallife at Horsham then followed with a second at Mount Gambier. She strikes a suitable assignment and deserves to break through for a win. FIVE CENT (10) lacks high speed but is very strong so he was always going to be hard to catch once he found the lead at his latest Charlton success. He drops back to the second line now but he can make his presence felt. MILOLA ROCK (8) is a former New South Wales pacer, which joins astute mentor Aaron Dunn. She attempted to lead throughout and tired at Wagga last outing but she was placed against good opposition on that track in early June so she must be kept safe. SEA FLYER (7) was caught wide early, restrained to last and finished off well for a game second at Terang last outing. She is poorly drawn again but went well enough last outing to warrant consideration.

SELECTIONS: MARGARITARI (9), FIVE CENT (10), MILOLA ROCK (8), SEA FLYER (7)

Race 7:

OVERVIEW: POPPY POPSTAR (9) continues to perform consistently and is one of the leading chances again. She trailed the leader, used the sprint lane and finished a close second behind Jackies Gift in track record time at Echuca last outing. METRO SWISH (7) went quickly in the early stages to find and hold the lead before being run down late when a creditable second at Ballarat last outing. She has a tough draw to overcome but she is nearing a win against this class. BOUTIKA (8) commenced from the inside of the second line, was shuffled back on the markers and weaved a passage over the latter stages when a handy finishing second behind Champagnes last week. She has competed at Metropolitan level a few times recently so she appears to be well placed against this line up. MATTYO (3) is a tough type and is worth thought along with RASTAMON (5) and ARZALI (6), which is resuming but will be fitter after a trial fifth last week.

BACK: POPPY POPSTAR (9) – 2 units (win)

SELECTIONS: POPPY POPSTAR (9), METRO SWISH (7), BOUTIKA (8), MATTYO (3)

Race 8:

OVERVIEW: ALLGOOD VINNIE (1) is a brilliant beginner and was able to win at Shepparton last week, where he led out then took cover so he is ideally drawn to suit his racing pattern. He is likely to adopt similar tactics here and will be hard to hold out via the sprint lane. ARZALI ROCKSTAR (5) began quickly to find the lead, ran along at a genuine tempo and scored nicely in a strong race at Ballarat last outing. She is likely to be looking for the lead again and should make her presence felt. MUSELET (8) is likely to gain an economical trip on the markers and should be finding the line nicely. He was a winner via the sprint lane at Geelong in May. MISTER JIMARINGLE (9) sustained a long run from the back of the pack at the 700m when a handy third behind Asmileandawinx at Kilmore last outing. He is usually competitive against this class and cannot be left out of calculations.

BACK: ALLGOOD VINNIE (1) – 2 units (win)

SELECTIONS: ALLGOOD VINNIE (1), ARZALI ROCKSTAR (5), MUSELET (8), MISTER JIMARINGLE (9)
