GOODFORM – Craig’s tips for Barry Dunn Memorial Day at Horsham

Craig Rail has your selections, strategy and Quaddie for Monday afternoon at Horsham

Race 1:

OVERVIEW: HES RUNAWAY BAY (6) was confidently supported when on debut but lost his winning chance after galloping 50m after the start. He was still detached from the main group with 800m remaining and was only beaten by 10m at the end so he probably should have won and will take beating if he gives a fool proof display this afternoon. DALAHASTEN (2) was safely held at Bendigo on Wednesday night but it was a strong Graduation heat won by Queen of Sees and this race is much easier. He was placed at his two starts prior and is worth another chance. I AM SKYE CHIOLA (5) delivered clearly a career best performance when she broke stride in the score up, tacked onto the group with a mile remaining and finished off quickly for second behind Glory Connect at Terang. She is still learning but has winning claims if she can deliver a repeat performance. MATISOFF (4) ran a distant second at his debut performance then broke stride around the first corner and lost his chance at his next attempt. He is worth thought in an open race to commence the program.

SELECTIONS: HES RUNAWAY BAY (6), DALAHASTEN (2), I AM SKYE CHIOLA (5), MATISOFF (4)

Race 2:

OVERVIEW: CARAPAZ (4) made mid-race move to find the lead and ran a brave second at Ouyen then was held up for a run at a vital stage and used the sprint lane at his latest fourth. He strikes a suitable assignment now and gets his chance to deliver his maiden success. WATCH HIM DANCE (5) was caught out three horses wide early, pushed forward to race without cover and battled on fairly well when sixth behind Schwarz at Bendigo. He is likely to find this race to be a little easier and is capable of improving on his numerical form. ALWAYS BENEFITS (1) is a first starter for trainer Zac Steenhuis, which was narrowly beaten at a Bendigo trial effort then scored in slow time at his latest Maryborough trial performance. He is ideally drawn and must be kept safe. BUBBLE OVER (3) was caught wide early and had to be restrained to last to find a position closer to the pegs so she didn’t have much luck at Terang. She is a place hope along with FRENCH PLEASURE (7).

BACK: CARAPAZ (4) – 2 units (win)

SELECTIONS: CARAPAZ (4), WATCH HIM DANCE (5), ALWAYS BENEFITS (1), BUBBLE OVER (1)

Race 3:

OVERVIEW: HELLAVA DEAL (6) endured a wide trip and had excuses when unplaced at Terang last outing. He was a big winner at Charlton prior and is worth another chance. KEAYANG HUNGRY (1) has struck peak form at his past two attempts with a runaway victory at Mount Gambier followed by a third at Terang, where he circled around the field to find the lead mid-race. He is stepping up in class for this assignment but this is his best draw for a long time so he should be in front for a long way. AMERICAN ASSASSIN (7) pushed forward to race without cover, gained a one out and one back trail at the bell and battled on fairly well for fourth at Terang. He is a speedy type and is not without a chance. OUTBACK QUEENIE (3) continues to race in great form and is drawn to receive every chance so she is worth thought again.

SELECTIONS: HELLAVA DEAL (6), KEAYANG HUNGRY (1), AMERICAN ASSASSIN (7), OUTBACK QUEENIE (3)

Race 4:

OVERVIEW: FREMARKS PEGGY (6) was slow to begin and never recovered at Ballarat last outing. Her form prior was very strong and leading reinsman James Herbertson returns to the sulky so she is worth another chance. SONARMI JOH (8) commences from the tough handicap of 40m but he started from the same mark when third behind the two handy trotters Sister Molly and Kamaran at Terang last week. He is a safe beginner and should be working home well. CONNIES PRESIDENT (3) is stepping up in class from his latest Charlton success but he performs best when he is close to the speed and should take catching if he steps away nicely from his good draw. MATTYO (2) has performed well at his two starts since resuming and should be prominent throughout.

SELECTIONS: FREMARKS PEGGY (6), SONARMI JOH (8), CONNIES PRESIDENT (3), MATTYO (2)

Race 5:

OVERVIEW: RANGER RICK (5) trailed the leader, was held up for a run at a vital stage and finished off well for a close third behind Major Blitz at Ballarat last outing. He has returned from a spell in good form and was placed behind the outstanding pacer Keayang Renegade three starts ago so he must be considered as a winning chance. Trainer Aaron Dunn has three runners in the race named in honour of his father Barry and all are racing well enough to feature prominently. ONE GOLDEN DEAL (1) endured a tough trip when a brave fifth at Terang last week and she recorded a mile rate of 1.54.7 when she scored at Melton three starts ago so she warrants respect. SCOOTER LOU (2) won twice in succession prior to a seventh behind the smart pacer I Am The Storm at Terang and is perfectly drawn. JAZZY MELEA (6) will appreciate a drop back in class from her recent Metropolitan performances and should be finishing off nicely. VINNY ROCK (3) finished off best after securing a nice trip at Terang and BANDIT EYES (4) returns from a long stint in New South Wales.

BACK: RANGER RICK (5) – 1.5 units (each way)

SELECTIONS: RANGER RICK (5), ONE GOLDEN DEAL (1), SCOOTER LOU (2), JAZZY MELEA (6)

Race 6:

OVERVIEW: POPPY POPSTAR (6) continues to race in good form and is clearly the horse to beat again. She worked forward to find the lead with a lap remaining and dashed well clear in the run to the finish when she scored last week. BAARLINEE (7) came from last and finished off strongly late when fourth behind Buckles For Berry at Ballarat last week. She should be reaching her peak form after having three starts back from a break and is competing in a suitable race now. CHAMPAGNES (4) worked forward to find the lead shortly after the start and was run down late when seventh ($1-65 fav) at Ballarat last outing. Her form prior was sound so she is worth another chance. RASENGAN (8) is a minor place chance from his trailing draw.

BACK: POPPY POPSTAR (6) – 3 units (win)

SELECTIONS: POPPY POPSTAR (6), BAARLINEE (7), CHAMPAGNES (4), RASENGAN (8)

Race 7:

OVERVIEW: IMAGINATION ORO (4) wasn’t beaten by far in a very strong field at Terang last week and gets her chance to improve on her numerical form considering she will appreciate a significant drop back in class. MARGARITARI (3) settled in the second half of the field and produced a big finish when a game second at Ouyen last outing. She should be reaching her peak form after having two starts back from a spell and she moves to the front line now so she must be considered as a winning chance. CEE WHOS BETTOR (8) has produced two impressive wins at Mount Gambier recently and is worth thought. He commenced on the outside of the second row and was driven aggressively to move up without cover mid-race when sixth behind Quick Decision at Terang last week. ROJENBYE (5) finished off nicely for third behind Maxbeca at Charlton two starts ago and is worth thought under these conditions.

BACK: IMAGINATION ORO (4) – 1 unit (each way)

SELECTIONS: IMAGINATION ORO (4), MARGARITARI (3), CEE WHOS BETTOR (8), ROJENBYE (5)

Race 8:

OVERVIEW: EYESEALITTLE (7) won on debut then competed throughout the Super Series at her next three attempts. She is first up since November and hasn’t been to the trials but she has ability and strikes a very suitable assignment first up. HAPPILY (8) looms as the logical danger. She led throughout to win at Goulburn three starts ago then was severely checked with a mile remaining and lost her winning chance ($1-50 fav) at Melton last outing. SEASIDE SHOW (9) began quickly from the pole position and scored convincingly at Mildura last outing. She is meeting a field of more depth now but is worth thought again. MISSMALACHITE (2) is a fast beginner and led throughout at a Charlton victory on April 26. She is suited over the sprint distance and should give a forward showing. TRYAGAINFREDDY (1) and FIVE CENT (5) are both capable of showing up without surprising.

SELECTIONS: EYESEALITTLE (7), HAPPILY (8), SEASIDE SHOW (9), MISSMALACHITE (2)
