Just Believe! Keayang Zahara! Ryan Phelan takes a look at the stars on show for G1 Redwood Day.

R1 – 1:17pm – Newsxpress Maryborough 3yo Maiden Trot - 2190m

6 – Lochinvar Son

5 – Majestic Party Boy

3 – Sky Lindy

4 – Hillwinsome

R2 – 1:49pm – Victorian Square Trotters Association Vale Dick Lee 2yo Maiden Trot – 1690m

2 – Tenasea Whiskey

8 – Kyvalley Joyride

3 – Farrokh

6 – Old Dominion

R3 – 2:24pm – Aldebaran Park Gold Bracelet – 2190m

7 – Ikigai

6 – Link In Bio

5 – Centurian Dream

2 – With Aplomb

Ikigai has a bit of a sticky set-up here being drawn outside her main rivals, but I’ve been most impressed with her recent form. She’s been taking on the A-Grade 3yo’s and wouldn’t be out of place in the Derby later. Even if she must sit parked, I want to be with her.

BACK: 7 Ikigai - 2 Units (win)

R4 – 2:59pm – Maryborough District Advertiser NMW Trot – 1690m

11 – Gee Cee Calder

5 – Fouroutoffive

1 – Prettyboy Harry

7 – Im Bobby

Gee Cee Calder looks to have the task ahead of him from the draw and over the short trip, but his form this preparation is impossible to ignore. He's even harder to beat now with key scratchings off the front row. James Herberston goes into this meeting on an incredible 299 wins for the season, I think he will get the 300 here.

BACK: 11 Gee Cee Calder - 4 Units (win)

R5 – 3:34pm – Community Bank Maryborough Gold Trotters Cup (G3) – 2690m

5 – Just Believe

2 – Arcee Phoenix

1 – Harry Stamper

7 – Parisian Artiste

Just Believe is a champion. What a treat to have arguably one of the greatest trotters of all time headlining Redwood Day! He’s beaten most of these rivals before and the fact this race is over the longer 2690m, it’s even more suitable for him.

ADMIRE: 5 Just Believe

R6 – 4:14pm – E L Titan @ Haras Des Trotteurs Victoria Trotters Derby Final (G1) – 2690m

8 – Keayang Zahara

3 – Violet Stanford

2 – Pinnie

4 – Valtino

Keayang Zahara is one of the most exciting trotters we’ve ever seen. She’s undefeated in ten starts and is already a four-time Group One winner. Her pure speed is unlike many we’ve seen in the trotting ranks and it’s exciting where she can get to. Despite the awkward backrow draw, she still should be too good.

ADMIRE: 8 Keayang Zahara

R7 – 4:49pm – Majestic Son @ Alabar Farms Matchmaker Mile Mares Trot – 1609m

9 – Dichotomy

10 – Rapid Return

8 – Picket Wire

4 – Minimez

Dichotomy is going much better than her recent form may read. Her run in the Vicbred final was excellent from a bad draw behind Rapid Return - so there’s a line there. I think there may be pressure for her to sweep home at decent value.

BACK: 9 Dichotomy - 1 Unit (win)

R8 – 5:14pm – Aldebran Park Redwood Classic (G1) – 2190m

3 – Commodus

11 – Gatesys Gem

1 – Vytis

7 – Keayang Kukri

Commodus comes into this race with the right form, winning the Vicbred final for the boys and was great from a difficult draw in the Tatlow. So much depends on his unknown standing start manners, but I’m backing James Herbertson to get it right. If he behaves and can find the top, he’s the one to beat at great value.

BACK: 3 Commodus - 1 Unit (win)

R9 – 5:54pm – McArdle Contracting Pty Ltd Trot – 2190m

8 – Keayang Gucci

7 – Prince Of Rock

3 – Aldebaran Boyd

1 – Hanover Da Moon

Keayang Gucci does have a tricky draw here, but she’s the sort of mare if she can be within striking distance she has a devastating turn of foot. There looks to be speed off the front row and I’m hoping that may work to her advantage.

BACK: 8 Keayang Gucci - 2 Units (win)
