Ryan Phelan has the mail for Shepparton harness racing on Melbourne Cup Day.

11 – Oprah Double You

2 – Night Sky

9 – Melbreh

4 – Southwind Chloe

R5 – 9:00pm – Saddleworld Shepparton Pace – 2190m

7 – The Majors Girl

6 – Country Rockstar

3 – Spun Silver

4 – Favourite Highlight

The Majors Girl will get no map favours here but does come into the race well graded with the claim of Tasmyn Potter. She was quite good first-up when back in the field at the race developed into a sprint home. I think if there’s an honest enough tempo she can be strongest late.

BACK: 7 The Majors Girl – 2 Units (win)

R6 – 9:30pm – Central Tyre Service Pace – 2190m

9 – Mynameisruby

11 – Noble Julia

8 – Righteously

6 – Jersey Sam

Mynameisruby was dreadfully unlucky last start when held up behind a tiring runner and she found the line well when clear. She trails through with the front row runners looking like they might scoot along early. I’m not expecting the last quarter to be strong for her to come over the top.

BACK: 9 Mynameisruby – 3 Units (win)

R7 – 10:00pm – Cottrells Electrical NMW Pace – 1690m

4 - Eye See Philtra

8 – Cuzzy Bro

5 – High Flux

6 – Good Day

Eye See Philtra doesn’t have a great number next to his name but was forced to race tough last time in a good quality race. This sets up better for him, he has early speed with his main danger Cuzzy Bro off the back row. He can bounce back.

BACK: 4 Eye See Philtra – 2 Units (win)

R8 – 10:30pm – Elite Horse Transport Pace – 2190m

5 – Swift Watch

6 - Kathys Free

3 – Chirripo

2 – Ya Bottom Dollar

Swift Watch is worth taking a risk with despite his last two performances being below his best on face value. He did have to sit parked in a good quality race in fast time at Wagga last start. Tonight, I think he can lead, and his best times are superior to the opposition if he can get back to his best.

BACK: 5 Swift Watch – 3 Units (win)

** A betting unit is typically a percentage of the total bankroll or the amount of money you are willing to risk on a particular bet – for example 1 unit is 10% of your bankroll, therefore with a $100 bankroll 1 unit equals $10.
