Harness Racing Victoria (HRV) is once again proud to partner with the Australia New Zealand Gynaecological Oncology Group for the February-March Team Teal campaign.

For six weeks through February and March the Team Teal campaign will see all reinswomen in Victoria race in teal driving pants to raise awareness and much-needed funds for ovarian cancer research.

HRV and wagering partner Tabcorp commit $200 each per Team Teal winner for the campaign period, delivering $400 towards programs such as the ANZGOG Research Nurse Grant Program and the Survivors Teaching Students Program for every victory.

HRV has been a key driver of the Team Teal campaign since its inception in 2014.

In addition to the money raised on the track, HRV’s wonderful Team Teal ambassadors drive other fundraising and promotional efforts during the campaign.

The ambassadors this year are Jodi Quinlan, Kate Gath, Kerryn Manning and Jackie Barker, who will wear Team Teal silks for each of their drives from February 1 to March 15, Monique Burnett and HRV Board member Judy Rothacker, who will be Team Teal spokeswomen, appearing on a range of media coverage during the campaign, and, for the first time, a Pony Trots Team Teal ambassador has been named in Courtney Laker.

“The significant growth of Team Teal over the years is testament to the commitment of the people driving it, supporting it – especially our women participants who don the teal pants for the six weeks – and all who donate time and money,” HRV CEO Dayle Brown said.

“I’m looking forward to seeing the teal silks and driving pants out on the track making a statement, raising funds and awareness for ovarian cancer research and I’m proud HRV and TAB have again teamed to donate $400 for every winner.”

The Team Teal story

The Team Teal campaign was created by Duncan McPherson OAM, who lost his wife Lyn to ovarian cancer in 2010. In failing health, Lyn and her family began fundraising for ovarian cancer research and nurses supporting women in the research units, an initiative that Duncan McPherson connected with his passion for harness racing, co-founding Team Teal with fellow owners and trainers, Michael Taranto and Jim Connolly.

The campaign expanded from Victoria to New South Wales in 2016, to all Australian states in 2017 and internationally to New Zealand in 2018.

The vision of Team Teal Is to continue to expand our efforts in raising awareness and much-needed funds for ovarian cancer research nurses and Survivors Teaching Students – Savings Women’s Lives.
