Jess Tubbs has followed the first part of Greg Sugars’ trip abroad with Just Believe from back home in Myrniong, but she will tonight board a flight bound for Sweden to join her husband and the star trotter ahead of Sunday’s Elitloppet meeting.

Tubbs, the trainer of Just Believe, will help put the finishing touches on her charge ahead of his historic start in the world-famous race at Solvalla this weekend.

“We're both pretty nervous, I think we'll probably not really appreciate what we're doing at the moment for another few years to come,” she told SEN Track’s Gareth Hall.

“We're sort of caught up in the logistics and tying to manage everything at the moment, but when we finally get a chance to sit back and realise we got to go and race in the Elitlopp, I think that'll be a pretty special moment.

“We're certainly nervous, we want to represent Australia proudly. I did get told he's 225-1 so I don't think we can say there's too much race pressure on, but we'll be out there doing our best.”

Tubbs said Just Believe had held his condition during the trip to Sweden better than she and Sugars had expected and was looking forward to hearing how he handled the Solvalla circuit during a work-out there today.

“He seems really good, but taking everything into consideration he's not exactly on a level playing field with the rest of the field,” she said.

“I'd love to think we see him at his best, but time will tell I suppose.

“Looking at the converted race records of them all, he is comparable with some of those horses in what times he can run over the mile, so we just have to hope he is feeling good on the day.”

Just Believe will become only the third Australian-trained trotter to compete in Elitloppet on Sunday and can be the first to reach the final with a top four finish in his heat.

He has drawn wide in barrier seven for the first of two qualifiers, with the race scheduled for 11.28pm AEST on Sunday.

Victoria’s Luke Humphreys will call all the action from Solvalla for Sky Racing.
