Lilley lauds Queen as ‘potentially the best’ he’s trained

With more than 30 Group 1 wins to his name in Australia, master trotting trainer Brent Lilley is no stranger to a good horse or two.

And that’s what makes his comments about emerging superstar Queen Elida so captivating.

Lilley, a New Zealand native, is happy to forecast the exciting four-year-old mare becoming the best standardbred he’s had his hands on.

“Potentially, at this stage, it’s certainly looking that way. She’s got all the attributes of a superstar really,” Lilley said.

“She ticks all the boxes. She’s as fast as any trotter I’ve trained, that’s for sure. She just takes it all in her stride.

“I’d certainly say she’s the most exciting and potentially the best horse I’ve ever trained.”

Queen Elida burst on to the scene last year to claim the Victorian 3YO Trotting Filly of the Year award and has continued her brilliant form through 2022, winning four of five appearances to take her career record to 15 victories from 25 starts.

In perhaps her biggest test so far, tonight the daughter of Love You must overcome a back row draw and quality field of open class rivals if she is to stretch her winning streak in the time-honoured Group 1 Aldebaran Park Bill Collins Trotters Sprint.

If she can, good luck stopping her when the Inter Dominion series rolls around in November and December.

The $75,000 Bill Collins Trotters Sprint is at 9.07pm, race seven on the 11-race card.
