Major Blitz eyes fifth consecutive victory

Confidence is high that promising youngster Major Blitz can maintain his perfect record for the season this weekend.

Boasting four wins from four starts, the three-year-old is engaged in Saturday night’s Final for metropolitan maidens in Melton.

Although the son of Art Major has drawn wide in barrier six, trainer Allan McDonough is positive Major Blitz will continue his winning streak.

Early betting markets echo McDonough’s faith, with Major Blitz a $2.40 favourite.

“I’ve been driving him like he is the best in the race and I will do it again on Saturday night,” McDonough said. “The draw is not ideal, but I will go forward from there in search of the lead.

“I’ve been going forward even from the not-so-good draws and that won’t change.

“Whoever wants to hold me out will sleep well that night!”

Citing Dance Affair as a threat, McDonough is also wary of the Marg and Paddy Lee-trained pair, Keayang Sweetheart and Keayang Payton.

A last start heat winner, Dance Affair is considered a $13 chance from the inside of the second row, with Keayang Sweetheart and Keayang Payton at $4.50 and $13 from gates two and 10.

“I think the guide to the Lee horses is which one Jason drives,” McDonough said. “Dance Affair has been going well for Philip Chircop and should get a decent run from there.”
