Mighty win gives Shannon a century in the sulky

Shannon O’Sullivan made sure she reached a major career milestone in style at Cobram on Thursday.

The 22-year-old reinswoman registered her 100th victory in the sulky thanks to David Aiken’s gelding Mighty Flying Art, who gapped his rivals to win the Peter Ennals Cobram Caravans Pace by more than 20m.

After getting off the inside from her barrier eight draw, O’Sullivan peeled three deep at the bell and powered clear in the last lap to record one of the most dominant victories of her career.

The Bendigo-based driver said it was a big thrill to finally bring up the century of winners.

“It’s definitely been one I have been wanting to reach for a while now and one I’ve been counting down to with each win,” O’Sullivan said.

“So I’m super excited to be able to reach the little goal of mine.”

O’Sullivan is the daughter of legendary trainer-driver Jim and commenced her career in the sulky during the 2017-18 season.

Her best campaign was in 2019-20 when she recorded 40 winners, with eight already in the bag through the early part of 2022.
