Jess Tubbs brought up her 300th training success during the week, but has barely had a chance to reflect on the milestone as the hot form of her stable continues.

The Myrniong horsewoman picked up a winning double at Ballarat on Friday night and backed it up with two metro wins at Victorian harness racing headquarters on Saturday evening.

The flying La Captain registered the first of those triumphs with an all-the-way success in the first heat of the Alabar Vicbred Platinum Metropolitan Pace before stable star Triple Eight returned from a break with a top display in the Prydes Easifeed Pace.

Tubbs’ husband and gun reinsman Greg Sugars drove both horses to victory, with La Captain’s success his fifth of a brilliant six-start campaign.

“We really haven't got anything pencilled in for this fella,” Sugars said.

“At the start of this campaign we were just hoping to see that he would start to shape up and turn into a horse that would be capable of winning a metropolitan race.

“He's done that quicker than what we originally thought he might have. He's fast developing into an above average horse.

“We are going to have to sit down over the coming weeks and plot a path for him and see if there is any feature races that we should target.”

Triple Eight warmed up for Saturday night’s first-up run with three trial victories and continued the good form with an easy triumph in the free-for-all pace.

A trip to Queensland for the winter carnival is on the cards for the Group 1 performer, who was given a break after his third in the Ainsworth Free For All at Menangle in early March.

TrotsVision host Rob Auber asked if the horse had come back in even better order this preparation and Sugars struggled to disagree.

“He may very well have,” Sugars said.

“We have been very pleased with what he's done and the way he's worked up this time since a short break after the Miracle Mile campaign.

“He seems to be in really, really good order and he's certainly no worse put it that way.”

Triple Eight joined Tubbs’ stables in early 2021 and has now won six races for the team.
