One lay in wait and the other left nothing to chance but both Chris Svanosio and James Herbertson emerged victorious, continuing their fine form with St Arnaud cups on Sunday.

Chris Svanosio followed Thursday's win by Magicool in the De Bortoli Yarra Valley Trotters Cup with a last-gasp win by Kyvalley Finn in Sunday's BSL/St Arnaud Sporting Club Trotters Cup, results that have given the stablemate the two leaders on the Maori's Idol Trotting Championship.

"We are having a good run at the moment, the last couple of weeks they are all sort of trotting good and going good, so it's good he stuck his head in front today," Svanosio told Trots Vision in the wake of Kyvalley Finn's victory.

The Skyvalley five-year-old, owned and bred by Jim Connelly, sat quietly three back on the pegs until the final 200 metres, with Svanosio advancing once the running line tired, picking off Jackson Square and then in his final strides Jerichos Trumpet, who had gamely led throughout.

"I was travelling pretty good at the 400. I was looking for a gap then, but I just had to be patient," Svanosio said. "He's a little star. He's never been on an 800-metre track before, I don't know what he thought when he got here, he just handles everything so good and finished off terrific."

While high speed served up Kyvalley Finn's victory, Emain Macha called on his strength to take out the Weirs Supa IGA St Arnaud Cup for Greg Sholefield and James Herbertson.

With a lap and a half to go Herbertson advanced from three back on the running line to the breeze, sitting outside Sunrose Master as they produced a succession of even quarters.

Come the final straight Emain Macha had threats from Rupert Of Lincoln out wide and Hashtag on the pegs but narrowly held all comers to record a 1.1-metre win.

"Had a little bit of luck getting in the running line. Mid-race he relaxed quite well and then when I pulled out he had a good turn of foot to be able to get round to the chair," Herbertson told Trots Vision. "From there he was just too tough. He was feeling his legs about 50 from home."

Emain Macha shares third place on the Trots Country Cups Championship with Swan Hill winner Colt Thirty One, with Code Black's United Petroleum Yarra Valley Cup win last Thursday propelling him to a clear lead in the standings.
