VicBred Pure was lauded as the spotlight turns to breeding, with Harness Breeders Victoria front and centre on TrotsVision and SEN Track.
It’s Breeders Week on TrotsLife, which can be enjoyed Monday-Thursday from 11am-1pm on SEN 1593AM, while on Friday night HBV president Nick Hooper and committee member Brett Coffey both joined TrotsVision to talk breeding.
Hooper took the opportunity to spruik Vicbred Pure, Harness Racing Victoria’s rich incentive scheme that rewards breeders who pair a Victorian foal with an Australasian-bred sire who stands in Victoria.
“If you are a breeder who breeds to race your own, then that’s fantastic, you’ve got the carrot sitting there for you,” Hooper told TrotsVision.
“We are also looking forward to next year’s yearling sales, where these Vicbred Pure yearlings will hit the sales for the first time. That’s going to be interesting to see how the market responds to that, knowing that they are looking at a yearling with a $12,000 first win bonus.
“We hope that makes them more commercial and an opportunity for a better return for the breeder.”
